Week Beginning 8th September

Week Commencing Monday 8th September

Monday

It has been a busy start to the week, the house corner has been very popular with lots of children today. They have been engaged in role play with lots of cooking & showing what it takes to care for a baby. They have been building friendships with their peers through play.
Outside the sun has been shining, most of the children has been busy playing with the small world dinosaurs 🩖 as well as using the construction diggers.

Tuesday

We have had a lot of chats about nursery routines & how we respect our nursery, we have been working hard  together keeping both indoors and our garden tidy/clean. Some children have been learning numeracy through technology supporting each other to achieve the correct answer. Some children took part in performing for each other in the garden, some beautiful songs were sung.

Wednesday

Some children took part in wake up shake up this morning they listened & followed instructions they showed off their dance moves to fun music. In the garden some children painted the shed whilst others chose to mark make. The art area has been popular with some very creative art work using a variety of materials.

Thursday

All of the children have been learning about how to keep themselves safe in nursery, and have been talking about SIMOA. There is a display in the cloakroom & you will see our SIMOA elephant popping up around the nursery. In the garden some of the children have been exploring with water learning about floating & sinking. Throughout the day most of the children have enjoyed a story of their choice.

Friday

Most of the children have still been interested in caring for babies, today the babies got a bath in the garden spending time bathing them then wrapping them up. Hoola hoops have been popular with rolling & chasing. At snack & lunch we have been talking about healthy food choices, and what food helps our body grow strong.

 

Week Beginning 26th May 2025

 

Monday

There has been lots of creative designs made today at the junk modelling, some of the children explored mixing different paints to create new colours. There was good teamwork whilst discussing what colours to add to make the colours they wanted. In the garden most of the children played with the bubbles exploring different ways to make them, they chased & popped them round the garden.

Tuesday

The Dolphin group went to the beach today which was very exciting as this was the first time this group had went in a smaller group. We had our snack on the grass before we started exploring. Some children made up a game of throwing stones into a tyre that was in the water as well as lots of exploring in rock-pools. Back in nursery water play was popular using pipes & different loose parts.

Wednesday

We have had a new den built in the garden with the children using it in a variety of different ways. The blocks  were popular in the garden to create castles as well as other structures. The children used their imagination to create different characters in the play.  Some of the children visited the school for their transition visit spending time exploring  the Primary 1 class.

 

 

Thursday

Today’s the day the teddy bears have their picnic.

We have been very busy today, all of the children had a picnic with their teddies listening to music & chatting.  We then went on a teddy hunt round the nursery & garden,  enjoying strawberries at the end of the hunt.  We spent the rest of our morning dancing & exploring in the garden.  The parents were invited to join us for a cup of tea/coffee. The teddies had a fantastic day in nursery but all the excitement was a bit too much for them, so they decided to have a big cuddle & a wee rest.

Friday

Some of the children went  to book bug with their adult where they enjoyed lots of singing & stories. In the nursery some of the children spent time recreating the teddy bears  picnic we had yesterday. They set up a tea party for the bears where they spent time making them tea  &  feeding them. At the block area a a vets surgery was built, they took turns of checking the animals over.  There was lots of discussion about how to care for the animals, great team work & negotiating skills.

Week Beginning Monday 28th April

Monday

It’s been a busy start to the week with the garden being a popular choice as the sun is shining.  In the mud kitchen there were some masterpieces being created by our busy chefs, they discussed the different ingredients to be added into their food. Lots of sharing of resources and fantastic teamwork. In the nursery ‘what’s in the bag’ progressed on to musical statues providing opportunities to dance, whilst listening to different styles of music.

 

Tuesday

We visited the beach today,  some of the children collected sea glass and stones. Some chose to bring back the stones to paint at nursery. The rock pools were full of shells and stones covered in barnacles which prompted conservations about why some stones have and some don’t. They’re was good use of imagination as some children role played on the grass area.

Wednesday

We have changed some of our areas in the garden over the last couple of weeks. Our new cosy story corner is an area where they can enjoy a quiet comfortable place to relax whilst listening to stories. Small world play in the garden has sparked imagination using our dinosaurs to create adventures. In the nursery the block area was busy building a stage for some of the children to perform. A child brought in a paper aeroplane they had made which prompted other children to make one. This then lead to  going into the garden to see who’s flew the furthest.

Thursday

We all visited the gym today where we were practicing different races for sports day learning how to move and control our bodies.
They listened and followed rules as well has encouraging each other. Back at nursery, in the garden football was a popular choice as well as using the hoola hoops in different ways.

Friday

The block area was busy with some children building a school which they then selected different materials to take into school. They took turns of role playing the teacher whilst the others had to listen and do their homework. In the garden there were lots of role playing using the car to go on adventures. The hoola hoops were also being used to jump into, using one or two legs.

Week Beginning Monday 7th April

Monday 7th April

The sun is out making us all feel extra cheery. The children helped to create a new sun station in nursery where they can apply it themselves with adult support. Helping them with independence & gaining knowledge on being sun safe. The garden has been busy with lots of role playing in the mud kitchen creating a burger restaurant, which encouraged most of the children to go & try. In the nursery our junk modelling is very popular where some beautiful structures have been created.

Tuesday 8th April

We went to the beach today where we explored a different area. Some of the children were using the stones to build towers they used descriptive language when discussing the different sizes. They built bridges using sticks that were collected from different areas, they had fantastic teamwork & negotiating skills to achieve their goal. Hill rolling was still a popular choice as well as some choosing to enjoy the beautiful views.

Wednesday 9th April

The art area has been popular today where some of the children have been interested in forces with lots of discussion about how wind power and how it helps our daily lives. They made their own windmills and selected a variety of different materials to decorate them. At the snack area children chatted about what they like and don’t like to eat, our snack today was very colourful which was prepared by one of the children.

Thursday 10th April

Another beautiful day in nursery with the children being busy throughout the session.  Some of the children have been exploring tip tap which provides opportunity to create a range of symmetrical pictures and patterns. In the garden there was lots of role playing detectives, as well has lots of relaxing in our shaded wigwam.

Friday

Today whilst developing our hand/eye coordination some of us demonstrated our designing skills by creating necklaces using a variety of different coloured, sized and shaped buttons. There was lots of mathematical language being used as well as estimation skills e.g. whilst deciding on how long the string should be to go around our necks. Some of us helped return some books to our local library where we engaged in some colouring activities before choosing some new books to bring back to nursery. “Wonky Donkeys my favourite!” We had a discussion with staff and children to see how we could make more space for creating models/structures in our garden using the outdoor blocks. We decided on moving the blocks and the writing bench to new areas of the garden and will monitor to see if the new areas are working well!

 

Week Beginning 17 March 2025

Monday 17th

It has been a very busy start to the week with some of the children being particularly busy at the art area making hand bags. This provided the opportunity to source a variety of  different materials & use our junk to create their masterpieces. They discussed shapes, position & size as well as developing fine motor skills. In the garden some children chose to play hockey whilst others played with the water using pipes.

Tuesday 18th

Carrying on from yesterday’s play the water has been popular again with lots of different resources being used.  There was lots of chat amongst them about forces where they experimented with the objects. They had to work together share space & problem sole to achieve the outcome they were looking for. Inside there were conversations about fruit/vegetables, giving a deeper understanding of what is fruit and vegetable. Some children chose to make faces with their selection.

Wednesday 19th

Today we explored with previous stones  to make transit art, we chatted about the colours & different pattern’s within the stones. Each child selected a variety of colours to make their art work. The sun was shining so the garden was busy with lots of different play from making music to football/basketball & bike riding. Some of the children took part in a tug of war which became quite competitive with the winning team being best of 3.

Thursday 20th

We all went to the school today where the nursery children were read to by the primary 6 children, sharing their favourite stories and chatting about the different characters within the stories. Back at nursery most of the children were busy at the art area, making shields using a variety of different materials. They then used the coloured foil that they had used in their shields to explore looking through them in the garden making the garden to change colour.

Friday 21st

Today there was lots of role playing using scarfs and junk modelling, to create different superhero characters. The block area was used to create ramps where it became a high speed car racing track, it then became a house where a variety of resources were added to the play. We then ended the day with a meditation activity called spaceship to the moon this allowed us all to relax and feel calm.

Week Beginning 3rd of March 2025

Monday 3rd March –

This morning we aerated the ground where our grass is to prepare it for new grass seed. đŸŒ± we worked hard developing our garden skills and our gross motor skills. We then scattered some grass seed. We will stay off of the grass and watch what happens next.

 

A group of children showed an interest in castles. Lots of co operative role ply using the characters. Developing their vocabulary, creating stories using the characters.

Tuesday

This morning we Celebrated pancake day by making and eating pancakes đŸ„ž. We followed the recipe instructions, used the scales to measure out the ingredients and took turns to mix the batter.

We went to Tayport school to look at the books 📚 in the book fair. We shared some stories together.

Wednesday

Lots of children brought their favourite books 📚 to nursery to share as part of our Bookday celebrations. We had a good variety of fiction, non fiction and book to “find the PokĂ©mon “.
 We then explored the beach. Developing our roads saftey on our walk there and back. “We hold hands” “We stop at the road before we cross” 🛑

Thursday

 

This morning we enjoyed a visit to the gym hall where we met some of the P6 children from Tayport Primary School to share stories toc c 📚📖 Lots of good communication between the children. We then had some free play with the balls in the gym hall before we walked back to nursery.

Friday

Today we enjoyed another book bug session along at the school. Our story was one recommended by The Scottish Book Trust called “The Runaway Cone”. We also had fun making up our own songs and rhymes. đŸŽ¶ Some our children were busy at the art/craft area designing, planning and creating swords and shields which were then used to extend their role/imaginative play đŸ›Ąïž

Week Beginning Monday 10th February 2025

Monday 10th

It has been a busy start to the week with some of the children heading straight to the art area to start creating. There has been some beautiful models and paintings. They experimented using the powder paints mixing different colours, the easel was used to discover the consistency “too runny”. In the garden some children used blocks & sticks to create models/building’s, using positional language and problem solving. As it is internet safety week we finished our day with a story about internet safety. We chatted about how we keep ourselves safe online.

Tuesday 11th

Some of the children have been exploring forces in the garden using guttering & a selection of materials. They used team work & co-operation as they discussed how best to make their chosen items flow down to the end.  The children have really been enjoying experimenting with powder paints again creating exciting colours. Some children took part in What’s in the bag, developing language & social skills as well as many other benefits whilst having lots of fun.

Thursday 13th

The children are still interested in our learning wall  ‘pets’ learning lots of different & fun facts. We had a special visit from  a grandparents puppy- Buddy, some children asked questions about what Buddy likes and dislikes as well as being able to give cuddles. All of the children visited the library which we took part in book bug, we listened to two stories and all got to choose their own book to take back to nursery. Back in nursery there has been lots of fantastic models created using junk modelling,

 

Friday 14th

Following on from the interest of pets a couple of children asked for a ‘paper’ dog/cat using different technologies to discover the functions using a scanner, internet. Showcasing their creative skills to cut/create puppets and  decorate with their print outs. In the garden some children have been creating different structures and testing how stable they are.

 

 

Week Beginning 23rd September 2024

Monday 23rd September

This week is maths week Scotland where we have been exploring all topics relating to maths, developing an understanding through counting, shapes and time. Today some of the children were exploring shapes at the art area creating different pieces of art work. The block was a popular choice  with den building, lots of great team work and negotiating.

Tuesday 24th

Through technology some of the children have been learning all about symmetry and what it means, the interest continued into the art area where they made some symmetrical paintings. The mud kitchen has been busy with children counting out there ingredients that were added to their dishes.

Wednesday

Whilst walking to the beach the moon was spotted. This prompted a discussion on the shape new language of “semi circle” At the beach
Some children were role play of fishing at the beach this lead to a discussion of depth and distance of where it would be best to fish. The children came to the conclusion with sharing their knowledge that far away in the boat would be the deepest and that’s where the fish would be. Some swans swam past us today with their signets.One child discussed being at the top of a “tower” relating to the height of the rock using mathematical language to describe with adult support modelling new language of height.

Thursday

Today in gym we explored a variety of different number, counting and shaped related activities in keeping with our Maths Week Scotland activities. There was lots of role/imaginative play in our nursery garden today relating to driving and driving licences “ You need a driving licence to drive a car” “We’re driving to McDonalds, do you want to come Mrs W?” “You need to press that and turn this to drive!”  Developing vocabulary/language skills as well as representing and sharing our ideas with others.


Friday

Today our Maths Week Scotland activities continued at Book Bug with a variety of number, counting themed songs, stories and rhymes. We explored ‘wrapping’ up different objects at the glueing table using a variety of different materials to both wrap and stick/fix the wrappings- developing our fine motor skills whilst exploring different textures, resources and materials. Outdoors we looked at different shapes within the environment and during our play . We even seen an aeroplane making a circle in the sky.


Week Beginning 9th September 2024

Monday morning we have been looking after our nursery environment by helping to tidy an rearrange our mud kitchen. We have enjoyed “what’s in the bag” sessions in the garden which helps to develop a range of language skills, to share and identify word patterns as well as apply counting on and back skills.

Tuesday Today we have been role playing firefighters after seeing a fire engine go past the nursery. We have introduced our kindness tree which has prompted discussions of different acts kindness. Each act of kindness will be added to our tree. A couple of children recognised a difference in the change of weather which has resulted in creating kites at the art area.

Wednesday At the play dough table  some children have been making flowers, butterflies,  stars and the sun- using numeracy skills to count the decorations for the petals. Outdoors at the mud kitchen some have been role playing “going fishing” to make fish and chips.. Following on from a current interest of making cups of tea, a couple went to our local charity shop to buy some items to be added to our mud kitchen.

Thursday Today at gym we all joined a session of “what’s in the bag?”. We took turns selecting objects from the bag relating to a song/rhyme which allowed us to develop rhythm and movement, follow instructions turn take and share space.

Friday We welcomed back our families to our family Bookbug session enjoying songs, rhymes.  Whilst some children have been in the mud kitchen making “soup” , using different methods to gather natural objects to add.
