Week beginning 22nd Sept

Monday 22/09/2025.

Today was a busy day in the nursery , in the home corner the children were taking care of the babies , there was a lot of conversation and team work as they had to feed the babies , get them dressed and get them to sleep! They did a great job working together to look after 2 babies with such nurture!
Some children were building tracks and ramps with the different sized blocks , lots of problem solving as they were figuring out where to put each one. Others enjoyed some free painting , it was interesting to see all the colours being mixed together to create new ones , mixing red and blue was our favourite as it made purple. Some children tried our new playdough tools and were describing what shapes they made in the playdough.

Outside we had a mixture of different play as some children were creating their own games with the dinosaurs , a lot of imagination and creativity through the nature of the garden and mimicking the sounds they make.

Tuesday 23/09/2025.

Today there was a lot of sand and water play where some children were using the jugs and bottles to transfer the water , this took a lot of concentration as water was still splashing everywhere but we all kept trying. As from yesterday the same children were using the blocks to create ramps but this time using the cars to test how fast the cars go.

Outside some children were singing ring o ring of Rosie’s , where children joined in as it continued. Using the cubes and materials some children created dens we had two different ones , one on the tuff tray and one covering the cubes it was a great way for the children to take part in hide and seek. Other children were taking turns and jumping off of the cubes , demonstrating the use of our gross motor skills.

Wednesday 24/09/2025

Wednesday we had some great snack helpers preparing snack , it was a great way to discuss the safety of knives and how to use them correctly , how the foods we eat are healthy. Some children were trying the jigsaws and working together to get them all together. Later Miss H introduced Kodaly to the morning children as well as the all day children , they responded well to the different songs and rhymes , we are learning new things such as singing faster , slower and quieter this also develops children’s social and literacy skills through music. We based this week on our emotions and all children are happy at nursery!

Outside we had lots of different sized dinosaurs and a fantastic habitat for them to live in with plants, stones, bark and mud!

Thursday 25/09/2025

Thursday we got to play on our new bikes and scooters!
There was sharing and some turn taking, supported by the nursery adults. We were learning that sometimes our friends also would like to play on the same new play equipment and we are working out the best way for all of us to have a turn.

In the afternoon some of us took ourselves inside for some quiet time in the story corner. We collected blankets and cushions to make us comfortable while we each enjoyed looking at storybooks and floor books together.

Friday 26/09/2025

Again today there was lots of outdoor play with babies, bikes and dinosaurs.
We’ve also made a road for us to use with the bikes and scooters.
Before lunch we had some together time with action songs.

This afternoon we continued with some outdoor play using the new cubes to climb and jump, before coming back into the playroom to explore the small world play sets such as the doll house, cars and trucks.

Week beginning 28th July 2025

Well we have settled into our temporary home here at Newport and are enjoying exploring all the spaces.

Monday:

Lots of fun exploring the gym hall area. We opted for the parachute and balls today, exploring different ways to incorporate both.

Next some of us planned out and made some items in the woodwork area. Using our organisational skills to plan, prepare and make our items. We used our problem solving skills to figure out whether we needed screws or nails.

“Look, I made a hammer with a torch on it. You can hammer things in the dark” TS

While some of us were making different objects with woodwork, the rest of us made models with Lego.
“My plane can fly high up with these bits!” MF

We had snack together today because we were celebrating a birthday too ! We hope you had a great birthday RD!

Tuesday:

There were not so many of us today, but we still made the most of our morning!
Again starting the day with some woodwork creations, followed by Lego, animation making with the IPads and outdoor play.

Some of us asked to go into the gym hall to play, where we had some music on so we could dance and some action songs. We even had some exercises which we followed. ( Once the grown ups figured out how to use the sound system!)

Wednesday:

Today we all made “planes” with lolly sticks. We talked a lot about what makes them fly higher or further. Next we changed the designs and finally had a little competition to see all our models fly!

Some of us explored the outdoor sandpit. There was lots of mathematical chat about volumes. Demonstrating our understanding of volume related vocabulary. “It is full up” “Wait! Look! Let’s use that one, it’s empty!”

Later in the day we went back to the gym hall where we did some more action songs, used the giant measuring tape to find out how long the hall was, before having more fun with the different sized balls. Mrs Moyes even showed us how to juggle with two balls at once ☺️

Thursday:

We completed the Daily Mile today! We did it altogether and ran around the school grounds, followed by a party snack!

Next we played Dodgeball in the hall and listened to some music. We even got to request some of our favourite songs 😄 before tidying up the playroom for home time – another busy day!

Friday:

We made it to the end of another busy holiday week in Newport.

Today some of us worked collaboratively, making different models with the Lego. Lots of turn taking, problem solving and sharing ideas.

After snack we had time in the gym hall, trying to get different sized balls through the hula hoop. We tried it up high, down low and every possible challenging way we could think of!

Lastly before home time, we had a trip down to the trim trail before our grown ups came to collect us. We are becoming much more confident climbing and balancing, and some of us are happy to explore different ways to move our bodies all the trim trail!

Happy Weekend Everyone,

We will see you next week!

Week Beginning 2nd December 2024

Wow! We’re at the beginning of December already!

What a busy week we’ve had in nursery this week.

Monday:

With the weather turning particularly cold and frosty the children spent time outdoors in the garden exploring the properties of the ice and discussing what they haver noticed about the changing environment around them.

“The ground is slippy and wiggly!” JM

“Mrs Dempster put sand on the logs to stop us slipping” GB

Lots of building play in the sand area this week, with large groups of children making walls, roads, paths and creating small world areas with loose parts such as shells and stones.

Tuesday:

Today we decided it was time to decorate the nursery for Christmas!

The children all took part emptying the boxes and deciding where to put each bauble and decoration. We danced along to Christmas music while we worked. This led to lively discussions around everyone’s Christmas trees and traditions…..and of course some of us have elves!

Finished off with a 4th birthday celebration and cake.

“My tree has a red star!”

“My elf was naughty”

“Guess what, I have a big snowman!”

Wednesday:

Today a group of the children were experimenting with the Ipad, taking videos of themselves dancing, singing and smiling. Lots of interest in the incoming technology items too. (More on this in the new year).

We all listened “The Christmas Story” today. Each of us listened well and answered questions about the story so show how we are beginning to understand the role of the Christmas story and how we celebrate.

Thursday:

Today was gym day.

We had some Christmas themed warm up games to get us ready and in the mood to be active and move our bodies.  Once warmed up , we had lots of different types of gym equipment out to explore.

We discovered different ways to move our bodies independently, using beams, mats, balls, cars, hobbyhorses and more!

We practiced turn taking and sharing the space with our nursery friends, it’s tricky but we are doing well with this.

Friday:

Today we all spent lots of time building elaborate houses with the large construction blocks and filling them with loose parts and items from the home corner. We worked co-operatively and created a plan for building.

A few of us have been loving the musical instruments this week, with some using them to support of Christmas song practices.

We even had another 4th birthday celebration and chocolate cake!

Our Christmas song practice has been happening every morning this week. We are working hard to learn all our songs, and it is definitely beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Have a lovely weekend and we’ll see you all next week.

The Nursery Team

Monday:

This week started with lots of role play.
Some of us built police cars with the large blocks and made handcuffs from pipe cleaners to support our play.
“I have a police dog called K9”

Tuesday:

Tuesday we played mostly outside.
Some of us used the small blocks to create towers and “McDonalds”!
There was lots of sharing resources with our friends and building resilience when our wonderful creations fall down !

We had a great time being back up in the mud kitchen now that we have new garden steps.
We made cups of tea and chatted about what we like to have with a cup of tea and what our family members like with tea (kitkats apparently!). Lots of great discussions to add to our PLJs 😊.

Wednesday:

Wednesday we were busy!
Peter Rabbit computer game is a firm favourite at the moment. We’re practicing directional language and sharing our strategies with our friends.

We are continuing our interest  in construction and engineering with building houses.

”This is a baby house, no grown ups allowed!”.

Working as a team to build and tidy up again. We’re trying hard with our tidying up, some of us find this tricky, but we’re still trying. 😁

Thursday

Almost all of us spent Thursday morning outside in the garden,  riding the bikes & scooters, playing families in the playhouse, digging in the mud pit, playing in the mud kitchen, and role playing a “Chocolate Town”! Lots of valuable learning, creating, sharing, turn taking, exploring, counting, contextual learning – phew, what a busy morning!

A small group of us even helped Miss Higgins at the shop to buy more flour!

Friday:

We found different sized/shaped leaves in our nursery garden. We tried some leaf rubbing using various Autumn coloured crayons-developing our knowledge and understanding of the world around us.  The children chose some new musical instruments to add to our outdoor music area – this created lots of discussion re the different sounds the instruments made. “This one’s really noisy 🙉” “We’re a band 🎸🥁🪇”
