2nd December 2024

Wow! We’re at the beginning of December already!

What a busy week we’ve had in nursery this week.

Monday:

With the weather turning particularly cold and frosty the children spent time outdoors in the garden exploring the properties of the ice and discussing what they haver noticed about the changing environment around them.

“The ground is slippy and wiggly!” JM

“Mrs Dempster put sand on the logs to stop us slipping” GB

Lots of building play in the sand area this week, with large groups of children making walls, roads, paths and creating small world areas with loose parts such as shells and stones.

Tuesday:

Today we decided it was time to decorate the nursery for Christmas!

The children all took part emptying the boxes and deciding where to put each bauble and decoration. We danced along to Christmas music while we worked. This led to lively discussions around everyone’s Christmas trees and traditions…..and of course some of us have elves!

Finished off with a 4th birthday celebration and cake.

“My tree has a red star!”

“My elf was naughty”

“Guess what, I have a big snowman!”

Wednesday:

Today a group of the children were experimenting with the Ipad, taking videos of themselves dancing, singing and smiling. Lots of interest in the incoming technology items too. (More on this in the new year).

We all listened “The Christmas Story” today. Each of us listened well and answered questions about the story so show how we are beginning to understand the role of the Christmas story and how we celebrate.

Thursday:

Today was gym day.

We had some Christmas themed warm up games to get us ready and in the mood to be active and move our bodies.  Once warmed up , we had lots of different types of gym equipment out to explore.

We discovered different ways to move our bodies independently, using beams, mats, balls, cars, hobbyhorses and more!

We practiced turn taking and sharing the space with our nursery friends, it’s tricky but we are doing well with this.

Friday:

Today we all spent lots of time building elaborate houses with the large construction blocks and filling them with loose parts and items from the home corner. We worked co-operatively and created a plan for building.

A few of us have been loving the musical instruments this week, with some using them to support of Christmas song practices.

We even had another 4th birthday celebration and chocolate cake!

Our Christmas song practice has been happening every morning this week. We are working hard to learn all our songs, and it is definitely beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Have a lovely weekend and we’ll see you all next week.

The Nursery Team

Week Beginning 2nd September

Monday:

This week started with lots of role play.
Some of us built police cars with the large blocks and made handcuffs from pipe cleaners to support our play.
“I have a police dog called K9”

Tuesday:

Tuesday we played mostly outside.
Some of us used the small blocks to create towers and “McDonalds”!
There was lots of sharing resources with our friends and building resilience when our wonderful creations fall down !

We had a great time being back up in the mud kitchen now that we have new garden steps.
We made cups of tea and chatted about what we like to have with a cup of tea and what our family members like with tea (kitkats apparently!). Lots of great discussions to add to our PLJs 😊.

Wednesday:

Wednesday we were busy!
Peter Rabbit computer game is a firm favourite at the moment. We’re practicing directional language and sharing our strategies with our friends.

We are continuing our interest  in construction and engineering with building houses.

”This is a baby house, no grown ups allowed!”.

Working as a team to build and tidy up again. We’re trying hard with our tidying up, some of us find this tricky, but we’re still trying. 😁

Thursday

Almost all of us spent Thursday morning outside in the garden,  riding the bikes & scooters, playing families in the playhouse, digging in the mud pit, playing in the mud kitchen, and role playing a “Chocolate Town”! Lots of valuable learning, creating, sharing, turn taking, exploring, counting, contextual learning – phew, what a busy morning!

A small group of us even helped Miss Higgins at the shop to buy more flour!

Friday:

We found different sized/shaped leaves in our nursery garden. We tried some leaf rubbing using various Autumn coloured crayons-developing our knowledge and understanding of the world around us.  The children chose some new musical instruments to add to our outdoor music area – this created lots of discussion re the different sounds the instruments made. “This one’s really noisy 🙉” “We’re a band 🎸🥁🪇”
