World Book Day – Thursday 5th March 2026 – In the lead‑up to World Book Day, we have been exploring a wide variety of book- and story‑related activities in nursery. 

Monday 2nd March–
Nursery staff walked with the children to Tayport Primary School to visit the Book Fair. The children enjoyed browsing and exploring the wide selection of books on offer.

Tuesday 3rd March-
We watched a short Meet the Author video featuring Julia Donaldson, whose books we have been enjoying in nursery.

Throughout the week, we have been encouraging the children to bring in their favourite book to share with everyone.

Thursday 5^th March – We will be exploring a variety of ring games related to stories/characters.

On Friday 6^th March, the children will be voting for their favourite story of the week.

Throughout this week the children are having great fun creating their favourite storybook characters using a variety of art and craft materials. They have been using their models and puppets to retell their favourite stories, showing wonderful creativity and imagination.

*Book Tokens – Everyone should now have received their World Book Day book token from nursery. If you haven’t yet received yours, please speak to a member of staff.

Science Week 6^th-15^th March 2026– The theme this year is ‘Curiosity’. We will be exploring a variety of simple science based activities.

Peep. Our next block of PEEP sessions will start on Friday 6^th March. If you have signed up we look forward to seeing you then.

Stay & Play Sessions –We will shortly be inviting parents/carers to stay, for a short time at drop off time, to spend time in nursery with their child to observe/share their child’s learning, their favourite activities etc. Younger siblings are welcome also but will be the sole responsibility of their parents. Dates still to be confirmed. 

Learning Wall- Our current learning wall is all about stories/books.  Please feel free to share any photos, experiences with your family etc so we can add them to our learning wall. This allows your child to share their home experiences and opens up more questions for children to explore.

Junk Modelling- The junk modelling is very popular and in high demand of recyclable materials. If you could help by bringing in items such as cardboard boxes, egg boxes, ribbon, wool etc. these would be greatly received… and who knows what creation these will turn into!

Sickness/Illness – A gentle reminder that if your child is unwell (e.g. Vomiting & Diarrhoea) the guidelines are 48 hours exclusion from nursery from the last bout of sickness/diarrhoea.

Lending Library – These continue to be housed in our front hall. These are changed regularly providing new activities for you to explore. Please remember to sign books/activities in and out. Thank you!

Parents/Carers Suggestion & Feedback Book Our Suggestion and Feedback Book is available in the front hall, and we would love to hear your thoughts. Please feel free to share any comments, suggestions, or ideas that could help us continue to improve our nursery experience.   Your feedback is always valued and appreciated. 

Weather – Could all parents please ensure their child is appropriately dressed for the weather, especially on Beach Days, and that all clothing is clearly named. Thank you!

Borrowed Clothes – Can parents please remember to return any clothes borrowed from nursery. Thank you.

PEEP – Thank you to those who have signed up to our current block of PEEP sessions. We hope you are enjoying them. There are still a few spaces in our Thursday morning sessions if anyone would like to join us. Please speak to a member of staff.

Book Bug – Our Book Bug sessions are continuing on Friday mornings and everyone is welcome to join us for stories, songs and rhymes. Please speak to a member of staff for further information.

Antibullying Fortnight – Week Beginning 10th November sees that start of our focus on antibullying. More details to follow.

Remembrance Day – Tuesday 11th November. As part of our learning around Remembrance Day, we will be talking with the children about why we observe this important occasion. If staffing allows, we hope to take a group of children to the local war memorial to attend the Remembrance Day service. We would greatly appreciate any parent volunteers who are available to help walk the children to and from the memorial. Your support would help make this a meaningful and safe experience for the children. If you’re able to assist, please let a member of staff know. Thank you!

In – Service Day– Friday 14th November. Nursery will be closed to all children on this day.

Children In Need – Thursday 13th November. As Friday 14th November is an in-service day, we will be marking Children in Need on Thursday 13th November instead. There will be a donation bucket available in the front hall for anyone who wishes to contribute. Donations are entirely optional. Children are also welcome to wear something spotty to help celebrate the day -again, this is completely optional.

Annual Toy Drive – Various locations across North East Fife are participating in this year’s event, including Tayport Primary School, which will run between 1st November – 30th November. Donations will be collected and distributed to children and families in need. We will be collecting for boys and girls aged between 0-18. Gifts must be new and unwrapped.

Nursery Times: – Just a wee reminder of our nursery session times:

AM Sessions: 8.00am – 12.40pm
Term Time Sessions: 9.00am – 3.00pm
We understand that families may need some flexibility, so drop-off and pick-up can take place any time after 8.00am and before 12.40pm, or after 9.00am and before 3.00pm, depending on your child’s session.

Sickness/Illness – Just a gentle reminder: if your child is unwell—particularly with vomiting or diarrhoea—the current guidelines are a 48-hour exclusion from nursery following the last bout of illness. This helps prevent the spread of infection and ensures all children can enjoy a safe and healthy environment. Also, when children are feeling poorly, they often find it difficult to cope with the busy nursery day. Keeping them at home to rest can really help with a quicker recovery.

Winter Weather – Could all parents please ensure their child is appropriately dressed for the weather and that all clothing is clearly named. Thank you.

Stay & Play Sessions – We will be offering three dates (9^th, 10^th and 27^th October 2025), for parents to choose one, to come and spend a short time in nursery with their child. If need be Siblings are welcome to attend along with their parents but will be the sole responsibility of their parents. Please see message on See Saw, dated 3^rd October 2025, for more information.

PEEP – We will shortly be commencing another block of PEEP sessions. Please look out for your invite which will be coming home with your child soon. This will contain more information about PEEP.

Book Bug – Our Book Bug sessions will also be restarting soon, again look out for more information regarding dates and times coming soon.

Tempest Photos – The Tempest photographer will be joining us on Monday 27^th October to take individual photos of our children. Every child will have their photograph taken but you are under no obligation to purchase the photos. However, this maybe a nice idea for Christmas Presents!!

Our current Learning Wall is all about ‘Food’. It is located next to our writing table. Please take time to share this with your child and feel free to add to the learning wall with your child. Staff will be more than happy to help with this if needed.

Wow! Here we are at the end of October already. We hope you all felt the benefit of the extra hour in bed last Sunday morning! This time of year is always fun packed and very busy, with lots of learning around seasonal changes, book week Scotland and our anti-bullying focus.

As Armistice Day approaches we will be reflecting on the UNCRC  article 38.  Governments should not recruit children into the armed forces.  Governments should make sure that children are given extra protection when there is a war or armed conflict.   Tayport Primary P7s will lay a wreath at Tayport’s War Memorial on behalf of our nursery and school.

Other Information 

Our Nursery is open from 8.00am

Monday to Friday morning 8.00 am-12.40 pm.                                    Please do not be late to collect your children.

After these times, the children are not insured to be on the premises. If there is a problem, please can you phone ahead.

Snack: Morning  snack is provided by the Nursery so please do not send any food or drink. If your child has any specific dietary requirements or allergies please let the Nursery know.

Illness:    If your child is unwell please remember to contact us and keep them at home until they are better, as children need to be fit to cope with an energetic session in Nursery. Health Board recommendations are that children who have been unwell, particularly if with sickness or diarrhoea, need to be kept at home for at least 48 hours since the last bout of sickness or diarrhoea, to prevent the spread of infection. Your co-operation with this is greatly appreciated. 

Wednesdays:   Foreshore (Beach) visits are taking place every week. We are always looking for support to help walk the children safely there and back. If you can assist with walking with your child for these visits can you please let the Team know. The more names we have – the fewer times you would be called upon to help!  There is also a “sign-up” sheet in our front hall.

Thursdays:  We walk along to school for gym at approximately 9.00am returning approximately 09.50/10.00am.

Nursery Contributions:  We ask for voluntary contributions of  £1.00 per week.  We ask you to pay this by 3 instalments of £12 and 1 of £13.  Milk and snack are free of charge.
