Wednesday

We were so happy to welcome our new children and our returning children to Ferryport ⛴️ Nursery. This morning children explored all areas of nursery and are beginning to get to know our new friends.

Thursday

This morning we are beginning to learn some of the nursery routines. All children are learning to self register with a little adult support from our families using the name logs and children who stay for lunch are choosing their lunch and recording on our lunch sheet. All children are beginning to wash hands before having snack and after using the toilet, some with adult support.

 

Friday

This morning we have been exploring the water outdoors. Learning the correct clothing to wear to keep us dry and developing our independence skills putting on our wetsuits and wellies. Some adult support was needed. We explored pouring the water from one counts to another then used the water to “paint the shed”

Monday

Tuesday

This morning there was continued interest in the paint app game on the computer. With some adult support children can choose an image and using the functions buttons they can now  edit colours, shapes and size. Then using the photocopier to make a paper copy of the completed image

Children have used the gym hall area well this morning to run, jump play football and dodge ball. Children leading their own games and agreeing rules through discussion.

Wednesday 

This morning we have used the large pipe in the garden, rolling up and down the hill, noticing that it is harder to roll uphill and tricky to keep up rolling it downhill. Discovering simple forces.

 

Some of the children played a role play game of dinosaurs 🦕 they can name lots of different types of dinosaurs 🦖 🦕 and demonstrated how each one moved. Developing their gross motor skills and sharing knowledge with peers.

Thursday

We watched some cartoons using the smartboard. Children talked about differences when they saw an old cartoon and new cartoon. The colours were brighter on the new one and they like the new ones better. Developing our interest in film and screen, talking about our likes and dislikes.

Friday

We were plying cricket 🏏 in the gym hall this morning. Testing out which bat was best. Some were heavy some were light. They tried with both and each decided which one they liked best for the game. 🏏 then they practiced throwing and batting, developing their hand eye co ordination and gross motor skills. They discussed the rules and looked for adult support when needed.

We played skittles 🎳 taking time to set them up, counting to 4 then rolling the ball 🎳 to knock them down. We celebrated our success as we knocked the skittles 🎳 down.

Week beginning 16th June 2025

Monday

This morning some of the children planted our carrots and onions into bigger pots. They are growing well. We gave then some water.

A group of children made windmills with Mrs Wright then experimented with them in the garden to see how they move in the wind.

 

Tuesday

Some of the children have been exploring the new den, using their senses to explore the different textures and watching the light change on the disco balls.

A group of children went to explore the shore this morning. One of the children led the session by talking to the other children about the “beach rules” we explored the rocks, found creatures rock pools,
and used loose parts to create transient art.

Wednesday

 

This morning our preschool children enjoyed a transition day visit to school. They explored the class room discovering all of the new resources and meeting new friends. Then they had a group activity with a school teacher followed by lunch in the lunch hall with their families.

At nursery the children asked to play musical statues. With a little adult support they used the smart board to find music to dance to. All of the children listened well for the music to stop. Following instructions to play the game.

Thursday

A group of children made musical instruments using the junk modelling material. They used their instruments to make a band and played music for the audience.

We had an outdoor Bookbug session. We sang songs and rhymes together, played games with the sparkly blanket and enjoyed a story called Some of our children received a Bookbug bag to take home to share with their families. See link below for details of the gifting program.

Friday

This morning we made play dough, developing our maths skills by practicing weighing and measuring. We weighed and measured all of the ingredients and followed the recipe. Working well together to share and take turns. The children then used the dough to play a game of cafes, developing their role play games.

We have been keeping ourselves and our friends safe by doing the daily risks assessment in the garden. Ticking off if the gates are closed. We then check all of the garden before we start to play and move anything that should not be in the garden to keep us safe.

 

 

Week beginning 12th May 2025

Monday 12th

This morning there has been lots of outdoor water play. “ Making a bath and drinking water for insects and small animals in our garden to drink and play in.” There has been a lot of discussion using mathematical language “we don’t want it too deep because the animals will drown,” Looking after the insects/small animals that live in our garden.

There was a cafe role play game at the mud kitchen. Using Recipe books to select what to make for the cafe. Lots of co operative play, listening to others and learning from books, helping to develop communication skills.

 

Tuesday

This morning our first group of children visited the shore. They had a picnic snack with sandwiches, fruit and a milk shake. A group of children role played a game on the rocks  developing their gross motor skills, and another group role played tigers negotiating their different roles.

At nursery lots of children used buckets of water and paintbrushes to paint the fence and the wall at the side of the garden. Using different vessels to explore volume and develop the use of mathematical language.

Wednesday

The pre school children had a Bookbug session at school as part of our transition visit. We then went to the classroom to explore and to meet new friends and some of the school teachers.

At nursery a small group of children explored the globe with a little adult support as part of our destinations learning wall. We looked at where countries are on the globe and what the flags are for these countries. Developing our understanding of the world around us and developing our technology skills.

We gathered together to practice our nursery rhymes for our sponsored nursery rhymes day, which we all done really well and learned some new rhymes.

Thursday

This morning we all practiced our races and potted sports in the gym hall at school. Everyone tried hard, there was lots of  encouragement  by cheering each other on from the side lines when it was not their race.


We had lots of stories in the garden, a favourite was Balancing Bertie. Children were predicting what would happen next, giving their ideas and talk about what they liked about the story.

A small group of children gathered items from around the nursery to use as props in their role play game. Using money, car keys and a basket to extend their play/learning.

Friday

This morning we had our family  Bookbug session. We had a story about a crocodile and played lots of games with the sparkly blanket. Thank you to everyone who joined in.

The art area has been very busy. A group of children have been “costume making “ to create  characters which they then role played in a game together.

Week beginning 28th October 2024

Monday

This morning we had a visit from the photographer. We had individual photographs and some family photographs.  A group of children used the outdoors blocks to “play builders” 👷 using the wheelbarrow to move the bricks 🧱  to build a house. “ Indoor role play was “ families” children demonstrated understanding of “washing their clothes, making and sharing food with their “family”

Tuesday

Today we demonstrated our creativity in the art area making crowns. Some of our children created their own designs, shared ideas and used a variety of media to decorate our crowns. Most of the children used a wide and varied range of vocabulary whilst describing our crowns. Outdoors today some of our children were experimenting with different sized balls to see which ones would go the through the basket ball net – developing our estimation skills, gross motor skills and hand/eye coordination.

Wednesday

This morning a group of children used their imagination to design and build Lego structures.  Lots of communication to explain the pieces they had chosen and reasoning for their selections. Some chose to use the “work in progress area to add more at another time.

We all walked to the shore and explored the local environment. We splashed  in the rock pools and used our 3 points of contact rule to keep safe as we climbed on the rocks.

Thursday

This morning most of the children chose to dress up for Halloween 🎃 Lots of discussions about the characters they chose and reasoning for their outfits. Some children chose to do Halloween themed craft activities. We carved some pumpkins 🎃 and listened to  Halloween story.

Friday

This morning we had our family Bookbug session in The View at school 📚 We had a spooky story  and lots of songs 🎵 and rhymes. 👻 🕷️🎃🕷️📚🧙‍♀️

A group of children used the block to “build a hospital “🏥 “it’s where the Doctors 🥼 work.” Good communication between the group to decide on which blocks use and share their knowledge of the word of work.  👩‍⚕️ 👩🏽‍⚕️👨🏾‍⚕️🧑‍⚕️

Week beginning 7th October 2024

Monday  –  Following a child’s interest in movement with scarfs Miss Higgins introduced Kodaly marching along to the beat.  A small group of children joined in marching and skipping to the beat of  Grand old Duke of York, ABC song and Twinkle Twinkle little star. ⭐️  Children selected their own resources for the garden, working together well and risk assessing to keep each other safe.

 

Tuesday – There was lot’s imaginative play this morning,  a group of children role playing “digging up the road,” another group  used the Doctors kit to role play “ hospitals” they built a hospital using the large wooden blocks “with a track on top  for the ambulances.”Demonstrating their understanding of the world of work and jobs people do. In the garden some children worked well together to create a run using loose parts. They then experimented with the run using different sized balls to find out “which come faster and slower”

Wednesday –  a few of the children helped to set up snack, filling up the milk and water jugs and preparing the fruit and vegetables. Most of the children chose to have snack together. While at snack there was a group discussion where children shared their  thoughts on what makes a  good snack time together.  “ waiting in line to wash our dishes” “ try not waste too  much food “ “we remember to say please and thank you ” “we remember to brush our teeth.” Children’s ideas were made into The snack Rainbow  🌈 sheet and added to the wall in the snack area.

Thursday –  this morning we watched Blippi learns to recycle ♻️ together on the Smartboard in preparation for recycling ♻️ week next week. We set up an experiment 🧪 to see what would happen to different items if we buried them 🍌  🍞 🧴 this represents the landfill situation.  Keep posted to see our results in two weeks time. ♻️

Friday – This morning we had a Bookbug session in nursery. All of the children helped to plan the session, choosing songs 🎶 rhymes 🐠 🕷️ and a story. All of the children then joined in enthusiastically. Most of the children chose to have snack together. In the garden the trampoline and gymnastic bar were very popular. Some adult support to help with turn taking. With adult support a group of children used the printer to print art off they were interested in. 🖼️ Adding their own creative touches to the art. 🎨 🖊️
