Ferryport Newsletter March 2026

World Book Day – Thursday 5th March 2026 – In the lead‑up to World Book Day, we have been exploring a wide variety of book- and story‑related activities in nursery.

Monday 2nd March
Nursery staff walked with the children to Tayport Primary School to visit the Book Fair. The children enjoyed browsing and exploring the wide selection of books on offer.

Tuesday 3rd March-
We watched a short Meet the Author video featuring Julia Donaldson, whose books we have been enjoying in nursery.

Throughout the week, we have been encouraging the children to bring in their favourite book to share with everyone.

Thursday 5th March – We will be exploring a variety of ring games related to stories/characters.

On Friday 6th March, the children will be voting for their favourite story of the week.

Throughout this week the children are having great fun creating their favourite storybook characters using a variety of art and craft materials. They have been using their models and puppets to retell their favourite stories, showing wonderful creativity and imagination.

*Book Tokens – Everyone should now have received their World Book Day book token from nursery. If you haven’t yet received yours, please speak to a member of staff.

Science Week 6th-15th March 2026– The theme this year is ‘Curiosity’. We will be exploring a variety of simple science based activities.

Peep. Our next block of PEEP sessions will start on Friday 6th March. If you have signed up we look forward to seeing you then.

Stay & Play Sessions –We will shortly be inviting parents/carers to stay, for a short time at drop off time, to spend time in nursery with their child to observe/share their child’s learning, their favourite activities etc. Younger siblings are welcome also but will be the sole responsibility of their parents. Dates still to be confirmed.

Learning Wall- Our current learning wall is all about stories/books.  Please feel free to share any photos, experiences with your family etc so we can add them to our learning wall. This allows your child to share their home experiences and opens up more questions for children to explore.

Junk Modelling- The junk modelling is very popular and in high demand of recyclable materials. If you could help by bringing in items such as cardboard boxes, egg boxes, ribbon, wool etc. these would be greatly received… and who knows what creation these will turn into!

Sickness/Illness – A gentle reminder that if your child is unwell (e.g. Vomiting & Diarrhoea) the guidelines are 48 hours exclusion from nursery from the last bout of sickness/diarrhoea.

Lending Library – These continue to be housed in our front hall. These are changed regularly providing new activities for you to explore. Please remember to sign books/activities in and out. Thank you!

Parents/Carers Suggestion & Feedback Book Our Suggestion and Feedback Book is available in the front hall, and we would love to hear your thoughts. Please feel free to share any comments, suggestions, or ideas that could help us continue to improve our nursery experience.   Your feedback is always valued and appreciated.

Weather – Could all parents please ensure their child is appropriately dressed for the weather, especially on Beach Days, and that all clothing is clearly named. Thank you!

Borrowed Clothes – Can parents please remember to return any clothes borrowed from nursery. Thank you.

2nd March 2026

This week has been another busy one for us in nursery.

Monday:

Almost all of us created costumes in the art area today as part of our learning wall interest and also in preparation for World Book Day later this week.
Some of us made rabbits ears and fluffy tails and some made bears ears .
Later in the day we went along to the school to check out the books at the book fair. We really enjoyed looking through all the different types on offer.

Tuesday:

Today we continued with our World Book Week activities. We had lots of fun creating different costumes, from unicorns and pigs to carrots!

Outside we were clearing the garden in readiness for planting and using plenty of mark making with natural resources.

Wednesday:

Wednesday has been another busy day. Lots of water and sand play in the morning followed by more costume making in the messy area. We had more carrots, unicorns, Goldilocks, princesses and even a T-Rex!

Outside was lots of experimenting with hula hoops, rolling them to each other and dinosaur role play.

Thursday:

World Book Day!
We started the day in our  PJs and went to gym at the school. We played ring games and acted out being different fairytale characters.

After snack and a play outside we all gathered to listen to our favourite storybooks from home. We had tales about dinosaurs, mermaids, lions, bears, and Beauty &the Beast.

Friday:

Today some of us used large bits of material to create costumes for our role play. We  had lots of fairies, princesses and witches!
At together time we listened to “Jack and the Beanstalk” before voting on our favourite traditional tale. Our winner was “The Three Billy Goats Gruff”!
Outside we enjoyed the sunshine and played on the bikes and scooters in the morning and lots of dino play in the afternoon.

Mrs Murphy and Mrs Adamson ran their PEEP session this morning at the school, and very much enjoyed doing activities with some of the children and their families.

Have a lovely weekend and we’ll see all next week for more fun!

Thanks,

Ferryport Nursery Team ☺️
