Week beginning 2nd of February 2026

Monday 02/02/2026.

Today there was a variety of different play in the nursery we have took a lot of interest in holidays and safety , some of the children were role playing with the suitcase we found at the charity shop last week , they talked about what clothes they would need for the sunshine and packing the case.
Some children began to mix ‘potions’ with the paints and water , exploring different colours to see what they made.
At circle time we were singing variety of songs , our favourite was, head shoulders knees and toes.

Outdoors the children were getting rid of all their energy,  by running around different parts of the garden , managing our own risk with the different steps and heights around the garden. Some of children were creating habitats for the dinosaurs with sticks and leaves.

Continuing on from yesterday we talked about how we can communicate from ‘holiday’ we read a book called ‘Teddy goes on Holiday’ which sparked some children to write them out with different messages and pictures, we then out in the community to post our cards and learn the process of them getting delivered. Also at the post box , we saw the big red van with the postman who was collecting parcels from the shop then all of our post cards. Back at nursery the few children left were doing some drawing , painting and doing jigsaws. Some children enjoyed the blocks where they were stepping on a variety of sizes to manage their balance.

At the end of the day we tried learning new games and songs , one was ‘I sent a letter to my love’ which children really enjoyed and took turns

.

Wednesday 04/02/2026.

Today Miss Higgins took charge of a Kodaly session , where children choose freely to come in and out. We read ‘ziggys sunny holiday’ which talked about travel safety , car seat safety and crossing the road safely , there was a lot of understanding and some were able to talk freely about how they travel to nursery and what they use to keep safe , there was walking , cycling , in the car and on the bus.
Following on from the story , Miss Higgins had different coloured cards , red = stop , amber = get ready and green = go , to encourage children’s listening and observation skills i was holding up the cards while children followed the colour.
Afterwards the cards got put into different sections of the room , colour was called then they had to make it to that section , most children took turns at calling out the colours.

In the afternoon we had special visitors , the policemen came to talk to us about their job and how they keep everyone safe, there a lot of questions about where they ‘live’ and what they do to help us.

Thursday 05/02/2026.

This morning we did a wake up shake up from Danny go where there was a lot of body movement and stretching , it was interesting to watch the children follow all the moves confidently and do a great job balancing also! A few children were using the tools at the woodwork bench to create a model. In the sand children were discussing how to make homes for the dinosaurs , they used their imagination to figure out what works best to build it. There was a lot of dressing up in the home corner using the patterned scarves involving skirts , dresses and capes! Later on some children talked about wands and brooms which then continued on to learning how to make them , there a variety of sizes and colours , then role playing princess’ and witches. Some children tried using the pens to mark make.

In the home corner some children were role playing teachers , which sparked learning to practice writing in the diary’s. A couple children had some quiet time with games on the computer and iPad , practicing our numbers and mark making using technology. There was different painting going on involving the colours on bigger paper at the easel. We are starting to learn to put our names on our art work , a name board was created.

Outside there was messy play in the mud pit exploring the texture of wet and dry. Along with some physical play on the bikes.
