Week Beginning 29th September 2025

Monday

Today some children were exploring mark making at the drawing table. Whilst conversing with our peers we were developing our language skills.  Some of the children demonstrated their sorting/ matching skills by sorting the pens into one pot and putting the coloured pencils into another pot. Some of us helped make playdough discussing quantities and textures “That’s too much flour!” “It’s sticky!”
Outdoors, using our gross motor skills and hand/eye coordination,  we explored a variety of ball skills e.g. kicking, throwing, catching and rolling.
We will be having a visit from the ‘Childsmile lady’ in November so in preparation for this, today, we discussed how to help keep our teeth healthy by brushing our teeth after snack. We each found our own toothbrush, in the rack with our unique picture on it, before having a go at brushing our teeth.

Tuesday

Today some of our children created a bakers shop at the dough table. Whilst discussing the job of a baker they made a variety of cakes and sausage rolls. We added some coins to the bakers shop so the children can explore money and its purpose. A few of our children chose to explore various types of print in our story corner including their PLJ’s and floor books. This created lots of discussion and development of vocabulary and language skills.  Outdoors today lots of our children explored our new bikes developing gross motor, and turn taking skills.

 

Wednesday

Some our children explored a variety of collage materials at our gluing area today, sharing ideas, representing their ideas using a variety of materials whilst exploring different textures and using a variety of descriptive language. SIMOA the elephant (Safety, Inspect, Monitor, Observe, Act) introduced road safety to all our children today creating lots of discussion on how we can keep ourselves safe. The water tray was very popular today using a variety of different shaped, sized vessels to explore volume and force. This created the use of a variety of mathematical language.

Thursday

Lots of role play both indoors and outdoors today with the dolls house and the dinosaurs. Children arranging furniture and figures to replicate scenarios from home, creating a ‘dinosaur land’ using vegetation and logs from the garden – representing, and sharing,  their ideas through imaginative play whilst developing their sharing/turn taking and language skills  using a wide and varied range of vocabulary.  Using a variety of containers some children added water to the tuff tray  in the garden. They then explored/experimented how big a splash they could make! Some children discovered they could see their reflection in the water creating lots of discussion and experimentation by seeing what else they could see in the reflections e.g. clouds etc.

Friday

Today some of our children recreated  patterns using picture cards, to copy the patterns using the small wooden blocks, developing our colour recognition, pattern making and matching skills. Following on from lots of talk about foods and shops this week we are creating a new learning wall all about ‘food’ in which we will explore our favourite foods, where foods come from etc. Some children have been showing lots of interest in the musical instruments – learning the different names and exploring the different sounds they make.

 

 

Week beginning 22nd Sept

Monday 22/09/2025.

Today was a busy day in the nursery , in the home corner the children were taking care of the babies , there was a lot of conversation and team work as they had to feed the babies , get them dressed and get them to sleep! They did a great job working together to look after 2 babies with such nurture!
Some children were building tracks and ramps with the different sized blocks , lots of problem solving as they were figuring out where to put each one. Others enjoyed some free painting , it was interesting to see all the colours being mixed together to create new ones , mixing red and blue was our favourite as it made purple. Some children tried our new playdough tools and were describing what shapes they made in the playdough.

Outside we had a mixture of different play as some children were creating their own games with the dinosaurs , a lot of imagination and creativity through the nature of the garden and mimicking the sounds they make.

Tuesday 23/09/2025.

Today there was a lot of sand and water play where some children were using the jugs and bottles to transfer the water , this took a lot of concentration as water was still splashing everywhere but we all kept trying. As from yesterday the same children were using the blocks to create ramps but this time using the cars to test how fast the cars go.

Outside some children were singing ring o ring of Rosie’s , where children joined in as it continued. Using the cubes and materials some children created dens we had two different ones , one on the tuff tray and one covering the cubes it was a great way for the children to take part in hide and seek. Other children were taking turns and jumping off of the cubes , demonstrating the use of our gross motor skills.

 

Wednesday 24/09/2025

Wednesday we had some great snack helpers preparing snack , it was a great way to discuss the safety of knives and how to use them correctly , how the foods we eat are healthy. Some children were trying the jigsaws and working together to get them all together. Later Miss H introduced Kodaly to the morning children as well as the all day children , they responded well to the different songs and rhymes , we are learning new things such as singing faster , slower and quieter this also develops children’s social and literacy skills through music. We based this week on our emotions and all children are happy at nursery!

Outside we had lots of different sized dinosaurs and a fantastic habitat for them to live in with plants, stones, bark and mud!

Thursday 25/09/2025

Thursday we got to play on our new bikes and scooters!
There was sharing and some turn taking, supported by the nursery adults. We were learning that sometimes our friends also would like to play on the same new play equipment and we are working out the best way for all of us to have a turn.

In the afternoon some of us took ourselves inside for some quiet time in the story corner. We collected blankets and cushions to make us comfortable while we each enjoyed looking at storybooks and floor books together.

Friday 26/09/2025

Again today there was lots of outdoor play with babies, bikes and dinosaurs.
We’ve also made a road for us to use with the bikes and scooters.
Before lunch we had some together time with action songs.

This afternoon we continued with some outdoor play using the new cubes to climb and jump, before coming back into the playroom to explore the small world play sets such as the doll house, cars and trucks.

Week Beginning 15th September 2025

Monday:This morning some of us have been exploring the garden enjoying some digging in the mud area. Using the toy cars they had a car wash and with the diggers we were exploring pattern with the tyres.

Tuesday: Most of us have been developing our climbing skills on our new apparatus in the garden learning how to climb safely, take turns and show consideration for each other.

 

Wednesday: Some of us today have been creative at the construction area building a stage then holding a concert for our friends and taking turns at performing songs.

Thursday: Today some of us were playing in the sand tray making volcanoes and castles using different sized containers to build them. We were also getting to choose furniture for the dolls house, discussing the pieces and where you would find them in the house.

 

Friday

A lot of indoor and outdoor water play today. This morning we have been role playing making cups of tea and soup for the cold weather in the mud pit.  At the water wall different sized tea pots were being explored to make cups of tea- we were able to take turns and share space well. This Afternoon we have been developing our communication skills and friendships by waiting and responding to our friends giggles to blow more bubbles.

Monday

It has been a busy start to the week, the house corner has been very popular with lots of children today. They have been engaged in role play with lots of cooking & showing what it takes to care for a baby. They have been building friendships with their peers through play.
Outside the sun has been shining, most of the children has been busy playing with the small world dinosaurs 🦖 as well as using the construction diggers.

Tuesday

We have had a lot of chats about nursery routines & how we respect our nursery, we have been working hard  together keeping both indoors and our garden tidy/clean. Some children have been learning numeracy through technology supporting each other to achieve the correct answer. Some children took part in performing for each other in the garden, some beautiful songs were sung.

Wednesday

Some children took part in wake up shake up this morning they listened & followed instructions they showed off their dance moves to fun music. In the garden some children painted the shed whilst others chose to mark make. The art area has been popular with some very creative art work using a variety of materials.

Thursday

All of the children have been learning about how to keep themselves safe in nursery, and have been talking about SIMOA. There is a display in the cloakroom & you will see our SIMOA elephant popping up around the nursery. In the garden some of the children have been exploring with water learning about floating & sinking. Throughout the day most of the children have enjoyed a story of their choice.

Friday

Most of the children have still been interested in caring for babies, today the babies got a bath in the garden spending time bathing them then wrapping them up. Hoola hoops have been popular with rolling & chasing. At snack & lunch we have been talking about healthy food choices, and what food helps our body grow strong.

 

Week Beginning 1st September 2025

Monday: This morning most of us have been enjoying water play and sand.  A few have been creative at the playdough station, exploring shapes and textures.

Tuesday: At snack this morning a few of us were developing our fine motor skills chopping up our apples. Some of us enjoyed listening and taking part in songs and rhymes with Bookbug – developing our counting skills too, counting the ducks in the song.

Wednesday: Today  a few of us have been exploring forces with the magnetic shapes making stars  and houses. Some of us have been exploring developing our fine motor skills at the writing table making/creating  pictures.

Thursday: Some of us have been  role playing families in the home corner showing awareness of the needs of babies. Outdoors we have been enjoying  the new toys playing at fire fighters and construction workers. We have also been watching the aeroplanes and pointing on the map to the airport showing where they maybe going.

Friday: Most of us this morning have enjoyed lots of role play in the garden with the dinosaurs . Some of us were exploring nusery rhymes and joining in.
