Week Beginning 25th August 2025

Monday

Today  some have been identifying primary colours and matching colours. In the home corner there has been lots role playing the home life of parents caring for children such as feeding and tucking  into bed. Whilst looking  after the dolls  they have been using their fine motor skills to dress and undress.

Tuesday

Today the art area was very busy with interest of mixing primary colours to discover the changes whilst using different techniques to paint. Some have been developing friendships listening and dancing to nursery rhymes. Some children have been role playing daily home lives of washing dishes and cooking “tea.”

Wednesday

A couple of children spotted a honey bee. With modelling how to care for nature this sparked a conversation leading with many questions and suggestions. What do you need when you have been very busy running and are feeling very hot ? E “Need water” Discussing looking after and respecting nature to allow the bee to have a drink safely to help with energy and fly away again. J- then suggested the bee “maybe go see mummy.”

A couple of children have been developing their balance and confidence through risk play using the logs to jump and balance.

Thursday

There was a lot of excitement due to the heavy rain,  all children sharing space well with one another as they splashed.

At the outdoor music area a child was able to share playing “Happy Birthday”  and  “Twinkle Twinkle.” The  children have been developing their communication skills through taking turns. Exploring different tempos and sounds.

Friday

Fun filled Friday! Today there has been lots of water play, developing co-ordination and discovering how water travels by selecting different methods to fill and pour.  Some children have been exploring the woodwork bench selecting different tools and discovering their functions.

Some children’s first full week at Ferryport, lots of exploring and discovering all areas of the nursery. Developing friendships as they learn through play.

Inservice Day – Closed to Children

Wednesday

We were so happy to welcome our new children and our returning children to Ferryport ⛴️ Nursery. This morning children explored all areas of nursery and are beginning to get to know our new friends.

Thursday

This morning we are beginning to learn some of the nursery routines. All children are learning to self register with a little adult support from our families using the name logs and children who stay for lunch are choosing their lunch and recording on our lunch sheet. All children are beginning to wash hands before having snack and after using the toilet, some with adult support.

Friday

This morning we have been exploring the water outdoors. Learning the correct clothing to wear to keep us dry and developing our independence skills putting on our wetsuits and wellies. Some adult support was needed. We explored pouring the water from one counts to another then used the water to “paint the shed”

Week beginning 4th August

Today there was lots of different gym equipment in the hall which all most of of the children created their own games developing their imagination using the equipment as circuits, used as propts to role playing dinosaurs and the floor is lava.

As a group the children created a hopscotch game in. One of the children was able to write 1-10 in sequence. The game created discussion developing turn taking and sharing fairly with one another.

Thursday

Today a child asked to make a bird. A discussion lead into oragami and the meaning of this. Some other children joined and were able to listen and follow the step by step guide. 🦁🐅 The rest were busy making paper aeroplanes and problem solving how to increase their distance using mathematical language and problem solving skills.

Friday

Today one child continued their interest of oragami selecting a “cat.” The child then creatively designed and developed features and details. The guide was then not needed and the hold successfully created the rest independently. Most of the children used the reels to jump and balance sharing and discussing where safest place to place their feet.  This risky play allowed the children to risk asses their movement. In the gym hall all children used different body movements to dance to the music.

Week beginning 28th July 2025

Well we have settled into our temporary home here at Newport and are enjoying exploring all the spaces.

Monday:

Lots of fun exploring the gym hall area. We opted for the parachute and balls today, exploring different ways to incorporate both.

Next some of us planned out and made some items in the woodwork area. Using our organisational skills to plan, prepare and make our items. We used our problem solving skills to figure out whether we needed screws or nails.

“Look, I made a hammer with a torch on it. You can hammer things in the dark” TS

While some of us were making different objects with woodwork, the rest of us made models with Lego.
“My plane can fly high up with these bits!” MF

We had snack together today because we were celebrating a birthday too ! We hope you had a great birthday RD!

Tuesday:

There were not so many of us today, but we still made the most of our morning!
Again starting the day with some woodwork creations, followed by Lego, animation making with the IPads and outdoor play.

Some of us asked to go into the gym hall to play, where we had some music on so we could dance and some action songs. We even had some exercises which we followed. ( Once the grown ups figured out how to use the sound system!)

Wednesday:

Today we all made “planes” with lolly sticks. We talked a lot about what makes them fly higher or further. Next we changed the designs and finally had a little competition to see all our models fly!

Some of us explored the outdoor sandpit. There was lots of mathematical chat about volumes. Demonstrating our understanding of volume related vocabulary. “It is full up” “Wait! Look! Let’s use that one, it’s empty!”

Later in the day we went back to the gym hall where we did some more action songs, used the giant measuring tape to find out how long the hall was, before having more fun with the different sized balls. Mrs Moyes even showed us how to juggle with two balls at once ☺️

Thursday:

We completed the Daily Mile today! We did it altogether and ran around the school grounds, followed by a party snack!

Next we played Dodgeball in the hall and listened to some music. We even got to request some of our favourite songs 😄 before tidying up the playroom for home time – another busy day!

Friday:

We made it to the end of another busy holiday week in Newport.

Today some of us worked collaboratively, making different models with the Lego. Lots of turn taking, problem solving and sharing ideas.

After snack we had time in the gym hall, trying to get different sized balls through the hula hoop. We tried it up high, down low and every possible challenging way we could think of!

Lastly before home time, we had a trip down to the trim trail before our grown ups came to collect us. We are becoming much more confident climbing and balancing, and some of us are happy to explore different ways to move our bodies all the trim trail!

Happy Weekend Everyone,

We will see you next week!
