Week Beginning 23rd June 2025

Monday: This morning some of us have been  exploring in the garden. We rescued a frog, found a little baby bird and have shown lots of interest in the plants around the garden. Inside a few of us have been mark making at the writing table and being creative at the junk modelling.

 

Tuesday: Today some of us are now able to fold our own paper aeroplanes and helping others to make them. At the art table we have been developing our eye and hand coordination to make bracelets. In the garden some of us have been enjoying water play in the garden using different size containers to fill and pour.

Wednesday: This morning we all enjoyed a trip to our local fire station. We found out what fire fighters do, held the water hose and had a look around inside the fire station, learning about people in our community. Then back to nursery for snack and enjoying role play in the garden.

Thursday: This morning some of us have been at the writing table developing our mark making skills and practicing forming letters and words. Some of us have been making play dough and have been measuring and turn taking. Outside we have been enjoying role play in the playhouse.

Friday: A few of us have been creating a stage at the construction area and performing a show, singing and dancing. We have enjoyed water play pouring and filling using different size containers. Outside in the garden some of us have been creating stepping stones developing our balance and co ordination skills and playing red light, green light.

Week beginning 16th June 2025

Monday

This morning some of the children planted our carrots and onions into bigger pots. They are growing well. We gave then some water.

A group of children made windmills with Mrs Wright then experimented with them in the garden to see how they move in the wind.

 

Tuesday

Some of the children have been exploring the new den, using their senses to explore the different textures and watching the light change on the disco balls.

A group of children went to explore the shore this morning. One of the children led the session by talking to the other children about the “beach rules” we explored the rocks, found creatures rock pools,
and used loose parts to create transient art.

Wednesday

 

This morning our preschool children enjoyed a transition day visit to school. They explored the class room discovering all of the new resources and meeting new friends. Then they had a group activity with a school teacher followed by lunch in the lunch hall with their families.

At nursery the children asked to play musical statues. With a little adult support they used the smart board to find music to dance to. All of the children listened well for the music to stop. Following instructions to play the game.

Thursday

A group of children made musical instruments using the junk modelling material. They used their instruments to make a band and played music for the audience.

We had an outdoor Bookbug session. We sang songs and rhymes together, played games with the sparkly blanket and enjoyed a story called Some of our children received a Bookbug bag to take home to share with their families. See link below for details of the gifting program.

Friday

This morning we made play dough, developing our maths skills by practicing weighing and measuring. We weighed and measured all of the ingredients and followed the recipe. Working well together to share and take turns. The children then used the dough to play a game of cafes, developing their role play games.

We have been keeping ourselves and our friends safe by doing the daily risks assessment in the garden. Ticking off if the gates are closed. We then check all of the garden before we start to play and move anything that should not be in the garden to keep us safe.

 

 

Week Beginning 9th June 2025

Monday  – 09/06/25

Today there was a lot of interest in the art area where some children were drawing their favourite characters which went deep into a discussion about favourite movies. Some children created a ‘jumping platform’ with the blocks , a lot of turn taking and body control.

Out in the garden there was a few that created a game with the hula hoops , a lot of rolling , then through sharing ideas among one another they attached the different sized hoops together to step or jump round or into , one child choose to spin round with the big hoop showing exciting as he followed it round.

 

Tuesday – 10/06/25.

Today we were in separate groups as 1 stayed back at the nursery and the 2nd group took a walk to the beach in the sunshine. At nursery there was lots of technology use , using the mouse/keyboard to size pictures and researching images following on from Mondays discussions to print off and cut out.

Out in the garden a few of the children had created their own ramps and used the balls to see the force they went down from a variety of heights.

At the beach children were leading their own learning , one leading the beach charter and some organising the games , it lead to a variety of activities involving mark making , imaginative play with the rocks and then onto a hunt. There was a lot of discussions of sizes , shapes and the tide being near/far , fast/slow.

 

Wednesday 11/06/2025.

Today there was a variety of play around the nursery , while most of the children went along to school to meet their buddies for primary 1 the younger children spent a lot of time exploring mathematical play with the coloured bears , matching , sorting and counting them. The main focus was height , measuring them small to big and big to small.
There was a lot of exploring in the garden with the scooters and managing our ball skills by throwing , kicking and bouncing.

Thursday 12/06/2025.

Today there was creative songs and music using the iPad , exploring/experimenting with different tempos , high/low , fast/slow , loud/quiet even got in some dance moves. A small group got together to sing some rhymes and songs. We celebrated a fifth birthday today , we sang happy birthday almost all our children shared some delicious cake. Some of the children helped create anew sensory den in the nursery garden, offering suggestions of what they would like the den.

, we had lasers , swords and role playing different characters of their favourite movies.

Friday 13/06/2025

Today some of the children were building with the blocks , there was a lot of role play  including discussions showing knowledge of the outside world and how we work.
We then took a walk along to our community garden where we  sat down to listen to instructions – developing our listening skills.

’Can we all find the pond?’ .. with excitement everyone explored the garden to find it. We then went through the Willow tunnel with enthusiasm.

’This is amazing’ ‘wow’ ‘look come around this way this is so awsome’

We then collected some willow to thread to make the den , planted some beans , read some stories and took turns on the stepping stones , managing risk and our balance.

 

 

Week Beginning 2nd June 2025

Monday

Today our writing table was very popular with several children creating  cards, pictures, books, ‘writing’ using a variety of media✏️🖍️🖊️✍️. A few of our  children also enjoyed exploring/experimenting with the paper punch using it to add holes to their pictures, books etc as well as exploring how it works, and how many pieces of paper it can punch holes into at once, creating opportunities to develop their use of mathematical language. The garden was also popular today with some children helping to re-pot a variety of plant cuttings and seeds which we hope to use for a venture in the near future……watch this space! Whilst doing this we developed our knowledge of plants and what they need to grow 🌞💦.

Wednesday

Today our fantasy cube was used in a variety of ways during role/imaginative play e.g  “I’m driving my car!”🚗 “We’re going to Dundee in the bus” 🚌“This is our police car”🚓. Children sharing/representing their ideas through role/imaginative play whilst developing their knowledge and understanding of the world around them.  Our table top games 🧩were popular today with some of our children developing our turn taking, fine motor and hand/eye coordination.👋👀

Thursday

Today some of our children demonstrated being respectful and responsible by tidying up 🧹the area they had been playing in leaving it nice and tidy for the next person. Some children took responsibility for making sure our nursery garden was safe to play in by completing our daily check list📋. Almost all our children participated in our sports day – developing turn taking skills, gross/fine motor skills and celebrating success. We were joined by lots of parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles, carers, childminders etc who came to cheer our children on resulting in a successful sports day enjoyed by all.🏃🏃‍♀️🏅

 

Friday

Today there was lots of house building in our brick corner🧱 with some children sharing their ideas💡 with others whilst problem solving, discussing who was going to build what part of the house, and what the different rooms were going to be! They then discussed, and decided what furniture they needed before utilising the furniture out of the house corner to furnish their ‘brick’ house. 🏠 A few children also demonstrated their knowledge of fractions by creating a circle using the 4 arch shaped bricks to create a whole circle “Look it’s a circle!”⭕️ Outside today we enjoyed a story in the sunshine before choosing our favourite songs/rhymes to sing together developing our listening and turn taking skills.👂🎶

Ferryport Nursery News 4th June 2025

Tempest – Nursery Group photograph was taken this morning 4th June.

Nursery sports –  tomorrow (5th June) 11am-12am in Queen St Church gardens weather permitting!  Parents/carers welcome to join us to spectate. We would welcome parent/carer help to walk children along to the church.  We hope to leave nursery at approx. 10.40am.

Parent Chats – As previously mentioned on See Saw  our Parent Chats will be held week beginning 9th June. Sign up sheets are now available, in our front hall, for you to sign up with your child’s keyworker. If these days/dates don’t suit please speak to a member of staff to arrange a convenient time. Thank you.

Visits – We will be visiting the Community Garden on Friday 13th June. We aim to leave nursery at approx. 10.45am . Any parent/carer help to walk us along to the garden would be much appreciated

Thank You – A huge well done to all our parents/carers/children as we now have a final total amount for our recent sponsored nursery rhyme time. We have raised an amazing £538 which will now be used to enhance your child’s nursery experience in a variety of ways. A huge thank you again to you all.

Transition Visits – Our pre school children continue to enjoy their transition visits to Tayport Primary  engaging in a variety of different activities whilst becoming familiar with the different aspects of school life.

Learning Wall – Our learning wall interest continues to be  all about ‘Destinations’ i.e Where you live, languages, holidays, transport, The World.  Please feel free to share any photos, experiences with your family etc so we can add them to our learning wall. This allows your child to share their home experiences and opens up more questions for children to explore.

ELC Consultation –  Every few years Fife Council wish to find out about the availability of Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) for families in our area.  Please share your views.  The ELC consultation is available online until Friday 6th June 2025.  Click here to participate in ELC Consultation

Junk Modelling- The junk modelling is very popular and in high demand of recyclable materials. If you could help by bringing in items such as cardboard boxes, egg boxes, ribbon, wool etc. these would be greatly received… and who knows what creation these will turn into! 

Sickness/Illness – A gentle reminder that if your child is unwell (e.g. Vomiting & Diarrhoea) the guidelines are 48 hours exclusion from nursery from the last bout of sickness/diarrhoea.  

Lending Library & Activities – These continue to be housed in our front hall. These are changed regularly providing new activities for you to explore. Please remember to sign books/activities in and out. Thank you! 

Weather – Could all parents please ensure their child is appropriately dressed for the weather, especially on Beach Days, and that all clothing is clearly named.  We ask all children have a sun hat with them as we are getting nicer weather. Thank you! 

Sunscreen –  As the weather is getting nicer can you please ensure sunscreen has been applied to your child before coming to Nursery. We have a sun station set up where you can apply your child’s sunscreen if required.

Borrowed Clothes – Can parents please remember to return any clothes borrowed from nursery. We are running very low on boys trousers. Thank you.
