Week Beginning 21st April 2025

Monday: This morning some of us have been creative at the junk modelling making models of dinosaurs, bumble bees and fish. At the sand tray we have been exploring the texture of the sand and using different loose parts to build sandcastles.

Tuesday: Today a few of us have been developing our marking making skills at the drawing table , tracing around our hands and then writing our name on our picture. Outside we have been helping the adults to redesign the garden area with our thoughts and ideas. Some of us have been exploring shape, pattern and symmetry following instructions to make a paper boat. The experimenting to see if it would float.

Wednesday: We have been busy at the junk modelling this morning making “pets” discussing the types of pets we were making . Role playing in the mud kitchen , discussions on quantity making sure they had enough bowls for their customers.

Thursday: We have been enjoying the new layout of the garden with most of us  exploring the new mud kitchen area. A few of us have been showing our football skills we have been learning from football training classes from home. Inside a few of us have used different sizes of pots to make sandcastles developing our mathematical language.

Friday: We have all been very busy today both inside and outside the nursery. Some of us have enjoyed lots of role play in the garden with loose parts. Inside we have been exploring letters at the art table using the resources to make cards with our names.

Week Beginning 14th April 2025

Monday

Today there was a lot of discussion using a wide and varied range of vocabulary, including some mathematical language, to share ideas, design and build a variety of different  vehicles using the Lego. “Mines got 4 wheels!” “ Mines got 2 wheels and it can go really fast” “I’ll put another bit on the front to make it go faster” 🚗🚎🚚The writing table was popular today with some children making their own story books “My story books all about myself!” 📚demonstrating that they can use writing in a variety of contexts. Outdoors today some of our children decided to make/create their own drum kits by sourcing a variety of different vessels then exploring the different sounds they made. “This is a loud one!” “I’m going to hit it hard!” “This one’s quieter”🥁

Tuesday

We had lots of discussion re magnets and what different materials/objects magnets would, and would not, stick to! We looked out the magnetic fishing 🎣 game which created further discussion whilst developing our turn taking skills. Some of the children demonstrated their engineering skills by designing, problem solving and sharing ideas whilst building a racing track 🏁using the building blocks. They then used our estimation skills to predict which cars🚗🚙would go the fastest. There was lots of energetic play outdoors today developing our gross motor skills by running, jumping, pedalling etc.

Wednesday

Today the whales🐋 were creating  interest in the water tray creating discussions about sizes, how fast they swim , what they eat etc.  Size also featured in the sand tray where several children used a variety of different shaped/sized containers to build sandcastles🏰 creating use of mathematical and descriptive language. Our interest in jewellery making continued at the beach🏖️ today with some children looking for treasure e.g. sea glass, shells, flowers to design and create bracelets.🐚🌸

Thursday

Some of the children helped  give the garden a bit of a makeover. After a discussion with the children, and taking on board some of their ideas💡, we decided firstly to move the mud kitchen🧑‍🍳.  Most of the children were involved in helping clear🧹 the new area and move💪 the mud kitchen to its new home. They demonstrated fantastic team work & negotiating skills whilst doing this!  Look out for further developments in our nursery garden!
Jigsaws🧩 were a popular choice today with children working well together using problem solving skills to complete the jigsaws.  The brick area 🧱was busy today with some children planning and building Bluey’s house🏠 using negotiating skills to decide which part each child was going to build.

.

Friday

Today we explored a variety of different Easter themed activities throughout the nursery🐣.  Whilst using/developing our fine motor, drawing, cutting and writing skills some made Easter chick masks, some chose to create their own Easter cards and we had an Easter story in the garden whilst enjoying a little Easter chocolate treat😉🐥🥚. Some children created their own treasure hunt in the garden by ‘writing’ a list of objects they were to find and using their organisation skills to determine who was to look for which object.

Week Beginning Monday 7th April

Monday 7th April

The sun is out making us all feel extra cheery. The children helped to create a new sun station in nursery where they can apply it themselves with adult support. Helping them with independence & gaining knowledge on being sun safe. The garden has been busy with lots of role playing in the mud kitchen creating a burger restaurant, which encouraged most of the children to go & try. In the nursery our junk modelling is very popular where some beautiful structures have been created.

Tuesday 8th April

We went to the beach today where we explored a different area. Some of the children were using the stones to build towers they used descriptive language when discussing the different sizes. They built bridges using sticks that were collected from different areas, they had fantastic teamwork & negotiating skills to achieve their goal. Hill rolling was still a popular choice as well as some choosing to enjoy the beautiful views.

Wednesday 9th April

The art area has been popular today where some of the children have been interested in forces with lots of discussion about how wind power and how it helps our daily lives. They made their own windmills and selected a variety of different materials to decorate them. At the snack area children chatted about what they like and don’t like to eat, our snack today was very colourful which was prepared by one of the children.

Thursday 10th April

Another beautiful day in nursery with the children being busy throughout the session.  Some of the children have been exploring tip tap which provides opportunity to create a range of symmetrical pictures and patterns. In the garden there was lots of role playing detectives, as well has lots of relaxing in our shaded wigwam.

Friday

Today whilst developing our hand/eye coordination some of us demonstrated our designing skills by creating necklaces using a variety of different coloured, sized and shaped buttons. There was lots of mathematical language being used as well as estimation skills e.g. whilst deciding on how long the string should be to go around our necks. Some of us helped return some books to our local library where we engaged in some colouring activities before choosing some new books to bring back to nursery. “Wonky Donkeys my favourite!” We had a discussion with staff and children to see how we could make more space for creating models/structures in our garden using the outdoor blocks. We decided on moving the blocks and the writing bench to new areas of the garden and will monitor to see if the new areas are working well!

Week Beginning 31 March 2025

Monday

Taking ownership of safety, a small group of children worked together communicating responsibilities for garden check. One child volunteered to  “mark” make the risk assessment whilst the rest of the children were able to compromise by selecting who would chose which area of the garden t check. Developing communication skills to been feed back the information to be checked off and organising themselves through agreements.

Tuesday

At the building block area a couple of children made a “head quarters” each child had a different role to help construct the building. Designing the roof using bamboo sticks sparked a conversation to problem solve the structure. A couple of children set up  their own stage to perform – signing and dancing. By encouraging and supporting their peers helped to develop confidence.
