Week Beginning 27th January 2025

Monday:

We started the week with our “Learning Partnership” visit, where visitors from other settings came to see our nursery.  Some of the children showcased their PLJs and their learning, keen to share their nursery with others.

Outside: We were practicing our ball skills with the basketball hoop, hide & seek and water play. We explored the flow of water and why it runs down the hill. Lots of great ideas.

Playroom:

Lots of role play in our nursery shop and cafe, buying and selling and making meals. We’ve been learning about money and how we use it.

Art area has been popular today with lots of mixing paints and experimenting with colours and liquids.

Tuesday:

Outside:  There was a lot of bike and scooter play , children were managing risks and ensuring to make use of the space. We planted some tulips and peas around the garden , a lot of digging involved, we are exited to watch them develop.

Playroom:  A very busy morning around the nursery , there was a lot role playing in our home corner , re-enacting home life situations by baking ,  cleaning , shopping or looking after our brothers and sisters.

Art area: We were making good use of our junk modelling area with a variety of creations using different sizes and shapes , figuring out ways to join them together.

Wednesday:

Today we were learning about Chinese New Year. We had a story and listened to a film of a little girl telling us all about how they celebrate new year. We listened so well that we could answer questions about it and we learned how to say “Happy New Year”!

Later we went to the beach. It was cold and windy but we had fun. We climbed rocks, collected shells and pebbles, threw stones in the water to check which floated and sunk,  and talked about our safety rules. We looked at different types of transport we could see and hear.

Thursday:

Today was gym day. We completed the “sticky kids” workout. Learning to move our bodies in different ways.

Back in nursery, and after snack, some of us played outdoors. Lots of chasing games, turn taking and making up rules for our friends to follow.

In the playroom:

There was lots of model making in the art area, mark making at the writing table and role play both in the home corner and the rocking horse.

What a busy day!

Friday

We ventured to the Moon 🌙and Mars🌑 today on our Rocket ship that we planned, designed and built using a variety of small, medium and big bricks. Developing our mathematical skills  as well as our knowledge of the world around us.
Lots of problem solving and designing whilst creating our own kites today at the art area. We then experimented with them outside in the nursery garden.🪁 💨
Today we tried some yoga exploring different poses and their names e.g. The Tree, Downward Dog, Cat Pose and The Warrior.
We also explored some Chinese Ribbon dancing to Chinese music as part of our Chinese New Year celebrations 🇨🇳🧧
