Kindness Courage Curiosity

Nursery

Children come into the Nursery with many different experiences. The Nursery Team will build and develop these experiences in partnership with you.

Nursery Visits

As part of our transition programme you and your child are invited to  visit the nursery and school prior to your child’s start date. You will meet the staff who will answer any questions you may have.

Settling In

Settling your child into nursery may take just one day or it might take several weeks. The Nursery Team will work closely with you to ensure your child’s transition is as easy as possible.

Play is Important

Young children learn very naturally through play.  Through play, your child will cover the Nursery Curriculum: Health and Wellbeing, Literacy and English, Maths and Numeracy, Expressive Arts, Science, Social Subjects, Technologies and Religious and Moral Education. We will extend your child’s learning through observing, interaction and questioning and develop appropriate next steps.

Finding Out About Your Child’s Progress

Daily conversations with nursery staff will keep you informed and your child’s PLJ (Personal Learning Journey) will be kept updated of their achievements and areas for support.  The PLJ’s are there for you to read at you own convenience and can be taken home throughout the year so that you can look at it together.  You will also have organised progress meetings with your child’s Key Worker.

What to wear in Nursery

We encourage independence so clothing and footwear that is easy to fasten and manage is recommended.  Nursery activities can be messy  so not their best clothes!  Children change from outdoor shoes to gym shoes in the Nursery which are kept at Nursery and they will need wellingtons which again can be left at Nursery.  A spare set of named clothes is essential and should be returned as soon as possible if used.

Arriving and Leaving

Nursery staff will meet you at the gate in the mornings, please let them know if anyone other than the usual person will be collecting your child. Children should be collected from the main nursery door.

Snack

The children are involved in planning healthy snacks which always include fresh fruit, milk and water. There is no need to bring in an additional snack. Please ensure if brining a water bottle it only contains water.

Lunch

All nursery children are entitled to a free school lunch and they can make their selection when dropped off each morning. We promote healthy eating at nursery therefore if your child is bringing a packed lunch we ask that it is as healthy as possible.
