A message to all parents :
Support your child’s home language: Continue speaking your home language with your child to develop it naturally. Use your home language to talk about stories and help with homework.
Encourage reading: Read regularly in your home language, and listen to your child read in English. They can talk about the story to you in either language.
Provide resources: A bilingual dictionary can be very helpful. Take advantage of library services to borrow books, including bilingual ones.
Ensure your child is well-rested: Learning a new language is tiring. Make sure your child gets enough sleep so they can be fresh for school.
Foster a positive environment: Create a secure and happy environment at home. Your belief in your child’s abilities is very important.
Engage with the school: Attend school events and workshops. Your involvement is valuable, and it’s a great way to learn about the school system. The school is there to help you as well as your child, regardless of your English language level.
