At Donibristle Primary School, we take a conceptual approach to learning mathematics.
Conceptual Development in Mathematics is a Fife Council initiative. Its aim is to provide an effective approach to the teaching and development of mathematics skills to enhance number sense in pupils and therefore raise attainment. We believe that understanding how numbers work should be at the fore of learning. This is based on robust current research and has a proven track record in Scotland and worldwide.
Conceptual Numeracy aims to:
- Improve fluency in maths
- Improve opinions of maths
- Promote maths and its uses in all careers
Using this approach we aim to make children skilled numerically, be able to transfer the skills they have learned to other areas of the curriculum and are flexible thinkers.
