What is the Added Value Unit?
The AVU is one of the components of the course assessment at National 4. In order to pass at N4 level, you must complete the AVU. The AVU is a personal research project on a Modern Studies topic of your choice.
What is the structure of the Added Value Unit?
The structure of the AVU is quite flexible to give you the choice of how to research and present the information. You could present your findings as a PowerPoint, a written/typed report, a podcast, a video, a webpage… The possibilities are endless!
There are four main steps to producing your assignment:
- Choosing a topic or issue
- Collecting information from at least two different research methods
- Organising the information you have collected
- Presenting the information
