{"id":166,"date":"2021-03-18T10:23:53","date_gmt":"2021-03-18T10:23:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fi\/dalgetybayps\/?page_id=166"},"modified":"2021-03-18T10:29:52","modified_gmt":"2021-03-18T10:29:52","slug":"global-partnership","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fi\/dalgetybayps\/school\/initiatives\/international-education\/global-partnership\/","title":{"rendered":"Global Partnership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Global School Partnerships promote partnerships between schools in the United Kingdom and schools in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The programme aims to raise young people\u2019s awareness of global development issues and equip them with the skills and knowledge to become active global citizens.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Our school is involved in the following ways:<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">On Friday 4<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0September, the school welcomed ten Malawians who are visiting\u00a0Dalgety\u00a0Bay\u00a0as part of the town\u2019s link with Engcongolweni.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The group included teachers from schools in Ekwendeni and Engcongolweni, and they were very interested to see how schools in\u00a0Scotland\u00a0are set up.\u00a0\u00a0They toured the school and then visited different classrooms to get a closer look at the Scottish education system.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Nicholas Chihana, a Head Teacher, spoke to the children about the strong historical links between\u00a0Scotland\u00a0and\u00a0Malawi, primarily due to the work of David Livingstone in the 19<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0century.\u00a0\u00a0We also discovered that\u00a0Malawi\u00a0is a very poor country, and that the schools are short of teachers and resources.\u00a0\u00a0We discovered that many school buildings are in a poor state of repair, with no furniture, running water or electricity.\u00a0\u00a0We were delighted to hear the guests sing to us during Assembly, and to see how much they enjoyed joining us for school dinners!<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">As a result of the visit, Dalgety Bay Primary School is looking at the possibility of setting up a sustainable link with\u00a0Kaluhoro\u00a0Primary School, which is situated about 4 km from Engcongolweni.\u00a0\u00a0We hope to set up a two-way link which will benefit both communities.\u00a0\u00a0Dalgety Bay PS will send back information with the visiting group introducing our school and community to the staff and pupils of Kaluhoro.\u00a0\u00a0We hope that the staff and pupils there will accept our offer to join in a partnership which will benefit both schools and their wider communities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Global School Partnerships promote partnerships between schools in the United Kingdom and schools in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.
