In Commercial Primary we ensure that our children have a conceptual understanding of numeracy. This allows children to learn about numbers initially using concrete materials, then transferring this to pictorial form and then finally as an abstract process. This supports a better understanding as concepts become more challenging. We have detailed below some of the vocabulary we use in school, explained what this means and how you can support your child at home with this numeracy skill.
