{"id":27,"date":"2021-04-14T09:30:29","date_gmt":"2021-04-14T08:30:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fi\/collydeanps\/?page_id=27"},"modified":"2024-12-11T10:49:14","modified_gmt":"2024-12-11T10:49:14","slug":"eco-schools","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fi\/collydeanps\/school\/initiatives\/eco-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"Eco Schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Eco \u2013 Friendly Collydean<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At Collydean PS we achieved our Green Flag Award\u00a0in September 2012 and\u00a0we continue to be aware of the need to look after and respect our local and global environment.<\/p>\n<p>All\u00a0pupils\u00a0are involved in a number of initiatives:<\/p>\n<p>* the Rag Bag Collection<\/p>\n<p>* \u00a0Let\u2019s Grow (Morrisons\u2019 sponsorship)<\/p>\n<p>* recycling\u00a0activities<\/p>\n<p>* litter picking in the playground and community<\/p>\n<p>* maintaining a community Sensory Garden<\/p>\n<p>* maintaining the nursery garden<\/p>\n<p>We have earned ourselves some worthwhile funds to put towards useful equipment, such as wellington boots, gardening tools and weather monitoring apparatus.<\/p>\n<p>We drive our eco initiative forward\u00a0 with a detailed and planned overview from Term 1 \u2013 Term 4.\u00a0 This involves all year groups from nursery through to P7 in the hope that all, including the staff, develop a more responsible attitude and take positive action in the policy of \u2018reduce, reuse, respect and recycle\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Our ultimate aim is to\u00a0retain the prestigious Green Flag Award.<\/p>\n<p>We are all working together to achieve this ultimate aim.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Natural Connections Award<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Natural Connections is a Fife developed, outdoor learning programme aimed at raising awareness of the importance of caring for our own local surroundings and promoting our role in looking after the global environment.\u00a0The award scheme combines a wide variety of activities which encourage children to gain a better understanding of their rights and responsibilities, improve overall health and learn to understand and deal with risk.<\/p>\n<p>The programme consists of seven elements, some of which include discovering and respecting nature, \u2018finding your way\u2019 in unfamiliar territory, working together and adventure skills \u2013 all of which enhance social skills and develop confidence and self-esteem.<\/p>\n<p>Our ultimate aim is to encourage Collydean pupils to become more self-aware and eager to play their part in making our world a better place to live.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eco \u2013 Friendly Collydean At Collydean PS we achieved our Green Flag Award\u00a0in September 2012 and\u00a0we continue to be aware of the need to look after and respect our local and global environment.
