Colinsburgh Primary School

Everybody Matters, Every Step Counts, Aiming High Together, Learning Everyday

Our Vision, Values and Aims

Our School Vision and Values were originally created with children, staff, families and our wider community in 2018 and are well embedded in our school life.  Parents and carers share that they hear children discussing and referring to our vision and values at home.

They underpin the ethos and life within our school as well as all learning and teaching.

In 2025, after further stakeholder consultation, our vision was extended from ‘Everybody Matters, Every Step Counts’ to ‘Everybody Matters, Every Step Counts, Aiming High Together, Learning Every Day’ to incorporate ambition and aiming high for ourselves, our school and each other.

Our school vision is:

Everybody Matters, Everybody Counts, Aiming High Together, Learning Every Day.

Our School Values are:

Our School Aims

Our School Aims aligns with Scotland’s National Well-being Indicators; Safe, Health, Achieving, Nurtured, Active, Respected, Responsible and Included.  Further information can be found on the following link Scottish Government GIRFEC

Wellbeing Indicator Wheel (Larger Image)

We want our children to be:

Safe – growing up in an environment where they feel secure, nurtured, listened to and enabled to develop to their full potential. This includes freedom from abuse or neglect.

Healthy – having the highest attainable standards of physical and mental health, access to suitable healthcare, and support in learning to make healthy and safe choices.

Achieving – being supported and guided in learning and in the development of skills, confidence and self-esteem, at home, in school and in the community.

Nurtured – growing, developing and being cared for in an environment which provides the physical and emotional security, compassion and warmth necessary for healthy growth and to develop resilience and a positive identity.

Active – having opportunities to take part in activities such as play, recreation and sport, which contribute to healthy growth and development, at home, in school and in the community.

Respected – being involved in and having their voices heard in decisions that affect their life, with support where appropriate.

Responsible – having opportunities and encouragement to play active and responsible roles at home, in school and in the community, and where necessary, having appropriate guidance and supervision.

Included – having help to overcome inequalities and being accepted as part of their family, school and community.

In practice, the eight indicators/aims can be interconnected and overlapping.

When considered together, they give a holistic view of each child or young person. They enable the child or young person, and the adults supporting them, to consider strengths, as well as any obstacles they may face to growth and development.

Our School Song

We also have a school song that the children helped to write back in 2019.  This was with the support, skills and talent of BeatBox Productions.    The lyrics promote our vision and values and we love to sing it at our assemblies and school celebrations.  In 2025, the children updated some of the lyrics to reflect our updated vision hence the slight difference in lyrics from the recording below.

Chorus

Everybody matters, every step counts,

We’re all on a journey, learning all the way

Everybody matters, every step counts

Aiming high together, learning every day (line adapted for our new vision)

Verse 1

Respecting one another, that is what we do

Respecting everything, show that we care

Take responsibility for everything in life

At our school we all try to share

Verse 2

Showing that we’re honest, building up our trust (was friends)

Tell the truth, even when it’s tough

Look out for one another, kindness is the key

Help each other through when times are rough
