Keeping your Cool in School

Cool in School is a Fife Council initiative designed to help children build the emotional resilience, confidence, and self-regulation skills they need to thrive in school and beyond. Grounded in nurturing principles and positive relationships, the programme supports pupils in understanding their feelings, developing calming strategies, and building stronger connections with peers and adults. By creating a consistent, compassionate approach across our school community, Cool in School helps every child feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.

PE

At Colinsburgh Primary School, aim to provide high‑quality Physical Education (PE) in line with national expectations and the values of Curriculum for Excellence. We recognise PE as a vital part of every child’s learning experience, supporting their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.

Lessons are delivered in our Town Hall or at our Local Park.

How We Support PE

  • 2 Hours of PE
We ensure that all pupils receive a minimum of two hours of curriculum PE each week, as outlined in national guidance for Scottish primary schools.
  • Inclusive, Progressive, and Enjoyable Learning
PE experiences are planned to be engaging, inclusive, and progressive. We aim to build pupils’ confidence, physical competence, and enjoyment of being active, regardless of their starting point or ability.
  • Curriculum for Excellence Health and Wellbeing
Our PE curriculum develops key skills across the Health and Wellbeing Experiences and Outcomes. This includes teamwork, leadership, resilience, fair play, and an understanding of how physical activity contributes to a healthy lifestyle.
  • Wide Range of Experiences
Pupils participate in a broad range of activities, including physical literacy, games, dance, gymnastics, athletics, outdoor learning, and fitness-based activities.
  • Safe and Supportive Environment
All lessons are delivered in a safe, encouraging environment where pupils are supported to challenge themselves, set goals, and reflect on their learning.
  • Developing the Young Workforce & Leadership
Where appropriate, pupils are supported to lead aspects of learning, develop responsibility, and contribute to school life through roles such as Sports Leaders.

Our Vision

We aim to nurture confident, active, and motivated learners who understand the value of physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle. We hope to help every child build the skills, attitudes, and experiences needed to lead active lives both now and in the future.
