About Our School

Dear Families

Welcome to our school! I hope this will give you some information about us.

Coaltown of Wemyss Primary School is a small school nestled within the village of Coaltown of Wemyss. Our school has children from both Coaltown of Wemyss and West Wemyss.

As a small school, our children all play together and care for one another regardless of age and stage. Our staff pride themselves in knowing our families and children well. We have had several generations of families who have all been children within Coaltown of Wemyss Primary school.

We are very much part of the community of Coaltown of Wemyss, and value our strong relationships with our families and partners. These relationships are key to support our children’s learning. We are proud of our nurturing and inclusive ethos within our school.

A desire to ensure all of our children meet their potential is at the heart of everything we do in school and with our partners. We strive to create a learning environment which enables our children to become successful

learners, effective contributors, responsible citizens and confident individuals.

If you would like to know more, please do not hesitate to contact me by telephone, through our website or to call into the school in person.

Our Vision

The children, staff and parents at Coaltown of Wemyss Primary School are a strong team who work extremely well together to create a positive ethos and a successful learning experience for our children and Families. Our children learn and grow in a caring, inclusive, supportive and nurturing environment which encourages them to be confident, responsible young people. This is something we work hard to achieve, and of which we are very proud.

We celebrate success regularly through our assemblies and within our classes. We encourage everyone to have high expectations of themselves, be responsible and to be self-motivated. Our vision is that we all strive to BE THE BEST WE CAN BE within Coaltown of Wemyss Primary School.

We value and work hard to forge strong links with our local community. Throughout the year we plan events which include all our partners, including our Parent Council. We have a close association with our school Chaplin, Mrs. Jacqueline Thomson and Coaltown of Wemyss Bowling Club to name but a few.

Our children are actively involved in planning their own learning from individual to whole school level. Every child actively contributes to improve

our school. We consult regularly across our school community on all aspects of school life.

We use Seesaw as a platform to communicate with our families. Staff and children regularly communicate with each other using Seesaw as a means to share and celebrate achievements and learning both in and outside school. Our children are encouraged to take ownership of sharing their learning with adults at home.

Following consultations with our families, we have reintroduced weekly homework. This consists of a reading task and either a Literacy or Numeracy activity. This activity is related to the learning that has been completed in class that week.

Our Aims
