Nursery

We are especially proud of our wonderful nursery and the great start the children get here at Ceres.

Our nursery is a large, self contained unit for children aged from 3 to 5, which encompasses play areas and cloakroom facilities. We provide all children with opportunities and activities to explore and extend their ideas in a child centred environment. We encourage children to become confident individuals, successful learners, effective contributors and responsible citizens.

The nursery is set up with core areas such as literacy, numeracy, construction, sand & water, aesthetic and expressive areas, which are filled with a variety of loose materials. These materials promote imaginative and creative play, and can also be used to develop skills from all areas of the curriculum. Core areas are set up so that children can explore ideas and activities on their own or with their peers, giving them opportunities to access equipment and resources independently where possible. We also have 2 computers and an interactive smartboard to support the children’s ICT development as well as a variety of software, which includes digital and video cameras. Equipment is replaced and updated on a regular basis.

We have a secure nursery garden, with opportunities for bike play, climbing, exploring and water play. We also have a play house and sunken sand pit.

We also visit areas of local interest as part of our Forest Kindergarten initiative such as Craighall Den, and St. Andrews Botanic gardens. We visit St. Andrews beach for Beach Kindergarten when we can.

The nursery building has ramp accessibility.
