Careers Fair<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Our recent Meta Skills-themed Careers Fair, hosted by our fantastic P6\/7 and P7 pupils, was a huge success and a real highlight for the school community. The event was extremely well attended, with a wide variety of careers represented, giving pupils a valuable opportunity to explore different pathways and develop a deeper understanding of the skills needed in the world of work. Our learners demonstrated impressive confidence, communication, and curiosity as they engaged with visitors, truly bringing their Meta Skills to life. We were delighted to receive such positive feedback from the businesses involved, who commented on how polite, enthusiastic, and well-prepared our pupils were throughout the event. It was a wonderful experience that has undoubtedly inspired many of our young people as they begin to think about their futures.<\/span><\/p>\n Transition Novel<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n With high school transition fast approaching in just five and a half weeks, preparations are well underway to support our pupils in this important next step. The English department at GHS has kindly reached out to request that P7 pupils read <\/span>The Final Year<\/span> by Matt Goodfellow ahead of their transition visits. This shared text will provide a valuable focus during their time in the secondary school, allowing pupils to explore characters and themes in greater depth throughout their English lessons. Engaging with the novel in advance will help build confidence, support discussion, and ensure pupils feel more prepared and connected during their visit days.<\/span><\/p>\n Literacy<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n In Literacy, we are excited to begin our new class novel, <\/span>The Machine Gunners<\/span> by Robert Westall, which was chosen by the class. Set during World War II, the story follows a group of children who discover a crashed German plane and secretly build their own machine gun post, exploring themes of friendship, bravery, and the realities of war. This engaging and thought-provoking novel will link closely with our IDL topic, where we are investigating how World War II began, who was involved, and how it impacted people\u2019s everyday lives.
