Palacio. The novel tells the story of Auggie Pullman, a boy starting school for the first time after being home-schooled due to having undergone many facial surgeries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_lPh6eh0wmE7\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_GmPJjmNSFO8\" class=\"\">Through this text, we will explore themes such as kindness, acceptance, friendship and resilience. Pupils will develop their reading and comprehension skills, take part in discussions and use the novel as a stimulus for writing and personal reflection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_Ldh6ehWwmE7\" dir=\"ltr\"><strong><span id=\"text_hsMVf-lZY3B\" class=\"TextBodyEmph color_TextEmph\">Maths and Numeracy<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_YWh6ehGwmE7\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_VS9d3iK2HRA\" class=\"\">This term in maths and numeracy P4\/5 will cover fractions, data handling and chance and uncertainty. We\u2019ll be using the World Cup as an exciting context for our learning, including tracking the progress of the different teams \u2014 especially Scotland \u2014 and using real match information to support our numeracy skills. Pupils will keep developing their number fluency through a range of practical activities, games, songs and online resources, helping them to consolidate key skills and strengthen their understanding of the four operations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_8kh6ehmwmE7\" dir=\"ltr\"><strong><span id=\"text_4wbbLv_aae8\" class=\"TextBodyEmph color_TextEmph\">Learning Across the Curriculum<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_nLg6ehWtmE7\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_RvTE_8dNCK_\" class=\"\">Our new IDL topic will explore the countries Scotland will play in the World Cup. Pupils will choose their own focus\u2014this might be football traditions, famous players or cultural aspects such as food, music, art, dance, geography, landmarks or language. Pupil voice will guide the learning, with children encouraged to follow what interests them most.
