Transitions

Transition

Many children need support to cope with changes in their lives. Coming into nursery and moving on to the school are both big events in the life of a child. Lots of work is done by staff to ensure these transitions run as smoothly as possible for our children and their families.

When children initially come into our nursery they are invited in for an ‘Early Birds’ session where children and parents are able to explore the nursery rooms and participate in a small story and rhyme time. Parents are also invited to a nursery information session.

At their initial visit parents are encouraged to stay in the nursery until their child has gained the confidence to move on to activities independently.

The majority of our children move on into Carnegie Primary but we do have a significant number of children currently moving on to a number of different schools in the extended nursery area. Individual schools should keep parents informed of their transition programme and visit dates.

Primary 1 teachers are encouraged to visit the children in nursery, information from the PLJ is shared with school staff. This helps the teacher to become familiar with the children as individuals and make any new changes as smooth as possible.

We have a Transition Programme in place which allows our pre-school children to be involved in a variety of formal and informal events. Children from other local nurseries will also be given the opportunity to be part of these events.

The following Sway provides our families with useful information about our nursery.
