Pupils are continuing to settle into their classroom and working hard to learn the routines and expectations of Cardenden Primary School.<\/p>\n
In our new classroom we want to play, learn and be safe and discussed how we, and the adults in our room, can achieve this. The class charter is created based on the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child. We read a story called Let\u2019s Explore Our Rights to try and understand these a bit better. We each made a cloud as our \u2018signature\u2019 for our class charter and have since added \u2018buckets\u2019 as part of our classroom ethos.\u00a0 When we share, use kind hands, and generally be kind to others we are Bucket Fillers! We are working hard to fill our buckets and it\u2019s a great way to build new friendships in the class and understand what is expected of us in our first year at primary school.<\/p>\n
Our first topic in P1 is a literacy book study where we focus on different books and rhymes each week. Through these books we develop our phonological awareness, build on our rhyming skills and have been learning to put parts of the story into the correct order.<\/p>\n
These books and rhymes also have a lot of amazing characters, so we enjoy taking part in a variety of creative activities for example making \u2018plum pies\u2019 and \u2018spider crowns\u2019 which develops our fine motor skills.<\/p>\n
For numeracy we have been focussing, firstly, on numbers to 10. We are using a programme called Number Zoo which introduces us to each number through a story. During our numeracy learning we practise how to correctly form the number using different rhymes (ask your child about these). We have also been practising recognising and counting our varies quantities of numbers.<\/p>\n
As part of our classroom routine, we have also started toothbrushing. We brush our teeth every day after lunch. Our final routine of the day is milk and story just before we go home.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
