What is pedagogy?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u2018Pedagogy\u2019 is what we know about children and how they learn, together with the experiences and responses we provide. It describes our methodology and our understanding and beliefs of what is right for young children.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In determining the nature of our\u00a0pedagogy\u00a0we need to consider the child, the experiences we provide, our interactions, the environment, the family and their community and how these factors influence each child\u2019s holistic development and progress in learning.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Why should we focus on a play pedagogy?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Play encompasses children’s behaviour which is freely chosen, personally directed and intrinsically motivated. It is performed for no external goal or reward, and is a fundamental and integral part of healthy development – not only for individual children but also for the society in which they live.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
