Literacy:<\/strong><\/div>\n

In literacy P5 have been focusing on developing our handwriting and applying this throughout all of our work. We have been focusing on recognising and using connectives, as well as recognising and writing about who, what, where, why, when and how. Our text type for this term has been newspapers, and we have written some funny news articles, as well as our final piece which will be linked to our topic of the Titanic – an event that changed society.<\/div>\n

Numeracy:<\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
We have been learning how place value underpins addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, helping us to understand the relationships between the four operations. Alongside this, we have been investigating 2D and 3D shapes, exploring their properties and sorting them according to their features. Pupils have been encouraged to explain their mathematical reasoning and apply their knowledge in a range of problem-solving activities.<\/div>\n

This term, we have been exploring our social and emotional wellbeing, with a focus on school life, home life, and the experiences of choice and change. Through this learning, we have worked together to create our classroom charter and have been developing our understanding of a growth mindset and how it can help us overcome challenges.<\/div>\n
We have also been using the Cool in School<\/i> programme to help us recognise different ways of responding to difficult situations. Through discussions and activities, pupils have explored how some choices can escalate a problem, while others can help us resolve situations positively and move forward in a constructive way.<\/div>\n
Throughout our learning, we have linked our discussions to our school values, including our new value of Ambition<\/b>, encouraging pupils to believe in themselves, strive to achieve their goals, and make positive choices in all aspects of school life.<\/div>\n

P5 enjoyed a trip to the Old Course to take part in a special event organised by The Daily Mile. During the visit, pupils took part in a range of activities designed to promote both physical and emotional wellbeing. They learned useful emotional wellbeing strategies from SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health),\u00a0<\/b>completed the Daily Mile, and enjoyed introductory golf coaching sessions. The event provided a fantastic opportunity for pupils to be active, learn new skills, and explore ways to support their wellbeing in a fun and engaging environment.<\/div>\n
