Literacy<\/strong><\/p>\n

In Literacy, we have been developing our understanding and use of adjectives. Through a range of fun, hands-on activities, the children have been exploring how descriptive words can help make our speaking and writing more interesting. We have been using adjectives to describe texture, colour, number and shape, helping us to paint a picture for our readers and listeners.<\/p>\n

In writing, we have been learning about the difference between facts and opinions. The children have enjoyed sorting statements into facts and opinions and discussing how we can tell the difference between them. We are now beginning to use these skills to create our own fact files, linking our learning to our dinosaur topic.<\/p>\n

Numeracy and Mathematics<\/strong><\/p>\n

This term, we have been developing our understanding of place value to 100 and beyond. The children have been investigating the value of digits within numbers and using this knowledge to compare, order and represent numbers in different ways.<\/p>\n

We have also been building confidence with addition and subtraction through practical activities, games and problem-solving challenges. Alongside this, we have been exploring length, investigating the properties of 2D and 3D shapes, and looking for patterns in numbers. The children have enjoyed finding rules, spotting sequences and predicting what comes next.<\/p>\n

Health and Wellbeing<\/strong><\/p>\n

In Health and Wellbeing, we have been learning more about ourselves and recognising that everyone has both similarities and differences. Through discussions, stories and class activities, we have celebrated what makes each of us unique whilst also recognising the things we have in common.<\/p>\n

We have also been learning about our bodies and the importance of looking after ourselves. The children have explored ways to stay healthy through good hygiene, healthy eating, physical activity and getting enough rest. These discussions have encouraged the children to think about positive choices they can make every day.<\/p>\n

Topic Learning \u2013 Dinosaurs<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our dinosaur topic has captured the children’s imaginations and inspired lots of fantastic questions and discussions. We have been learning about how we know about the past and discovering how fossils provide evidence of life millions of years ago. The children have enjoyed learning about the important role of palaeontologists and the exciting work they do to uncover clues from the past.<\/p>\n

As our learning progresses, we have been exploring the features of different dinosaurs and looking at how their teeth, claws and body shapes can tell us whether they were herbivores, carnivores or omnivores. We will soon be extending this learning by investigating food chains and learning how living things depend on one another for survival.<\/p>\n

We are particularly excited to be taking part in an online learning session with the National Museum of Scotland, where we will have the opportunity to learn even more about dinosaurs from expert educators.<\/p>\n
