The training expedition for the Borneo expedition was held in Aviemore this weekend. Thirty-seven pupils and six staff spent Saturday and Sunday working on the skills they will need to use as part of this summer’s expedition – team building, problem-solving, menu planning, cooking, personal safety, hygiene and first aid to name but a few.
Hopefully, the weather the will be slightly warmer in Borneo – with the exception of the trek on Mount Kinabalu – than it was in chilly Aviemore.
Our congratulations go to Lewis Robertson (S4) who was awarded his Bronze level Duke of Edinburgh’s Award today by Ms Manders. Lewis has been working with Howe of Fife coaches (Volunteering section), training his dog (Skills section) and improving his own rugby game (Physical section) as part of the award over the course of the last year.
In addition, Lewis had to complete two-day training and qualifying expeditions to fulfil the Expedition section of the award.
Well done to Lewis and the staff team who support pupils working towards their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
Our commiserations go to the senior girls hockey team who lost out to Kinross High School, 4 – 0, in a tough fought match in the Aspire Cup. The girls worked hard and played very well but just lost out to the Kinross team.
Next up for the girls is a match in the Fife Schools Tournament. Good luck!
The Higher Health and Food Technology class visited Blairneuk House with Ashleigh Downie, Jannetta’s Assistant Production Manager, to pick a bumper crop of Hassel pears. The pears were taken back to class where pupils prepared the fruit ahead of the impending class visit to Jannettas next week to make Pear Gelato.
Ashleigh particularly enjoyed spending time with the pupils explaining how she came to work in the industry; sharing what she loves about it; her role at Jannettas, and gave an insight into the art of gelato making. Ashleigh was also thrilled with the feedback received when the pupils blind tested our new Halloween flavour, to be launched soon, activated charcoal gelato – a new name to be announced by the end of this week!
Staff and pupils would like to thank Dan Cookson (Blairneuk House) and Ashleigh Downie (Jannettas) for their help with this project.
