Fife Schools Cross Country Championships

Congratulations to our DAS Cross Country team who were successful at the recent Fife Schools Cross Country Championships held at Beveridge Park, Kirkcaldy.

The following medals were won by our pupils:

Gold – Jack Hanly (S2)
Silver – Thomas Quigg (S1) & Sophie Coughlin (S3)
Bronze – Arran Howe (S6)

The team have had a very successful season claiming medals at most competitions this year.  Our ‘thanks’ also go to our staff who have supported the pupils throughout the year.

Fantastic team effort!

Football success in football 7s league

Congratulations to both our junior and senior 7s football teams who finished winners and runners up in their respective tournaments last week.

The senior team, combined with pupils from Madras College, won their league meaning they will now represent Fife at the Scottish Championships.  The team of Arran Howe, Billy Soutar, Aiden McEwan and Levi Moffatt will now look forward to the national competition due to held in Glasgow during May.

At the same tournament, the junior 7s team finished as runners up.  The team of David Norry, Thomas Quigg, Leo Shaw, Nikole Spinks, Brendan Gordon, Declan Masson and Christopher Gallagher acquitted themselves well and just missed out on being crowned winners.

Good luck to the senior team for the national finals.

DAS fundraisers make donation to Cupar Foodbank

Our DAS pupils were delighted to present Monsignor Pat McInally with a cheque for £500 to be donated to Cupar Foodbank.  As part of their Personal Achievement Gold Award, Billy and Joshua, the main organisers of the events, nominated the foodbank to receive support from the Christmas Fayre activities.

Pupils and staff within the faculty made holly wreaths and table settings with the support of colleagues from SRUC Elmwood, with many businesses donating prizes to the raffle.

The DAS team also had the support of staff and pupils from Kilmaron, Fair Trade group, our senior pupils and one of the Nurture Groups.

A big ‘thank you’ to Miss Tidd and Mrs Clark for supporting the pupils as they put the event together.

East Cross Country success

Our DAS pupils had an outstanding last round at the East Cross Country Series of races.  In addition to picking up individual medals, the team won the John De Courcy shield to top off a great series!

Well done to the pupils and staff all their hard work.

“It was an amazing final round of the 2018/2019 East Cross Country Series organised by Scottish Disability Sport and Scottish Athletics at Peffermill in Edinburgh for the pupils of Bell Baxter HS.

Not only were there four overall series medalists for Bell Baxter HS pupils Sophie Coughlin, Arran Howe, Thomas Quigg (all gold) and David Norry (bronze) but the complete Bell Baxter HS squad was awarded the John De Courcy shield.

The shield was presented for the first time in memory of the late John De Courcy who was one of the original architects of the East Series and who passed away suddenly last year.  The shield is presented to the school that in the opinion of all other schools demonstrated camaraderie, sportsmanship and support for others.  Schools were not allowed to vote for their own pupils.

Bell Baxter HS teacher Fiona Stewart, who has travelled for many years with the Bell Baxter squad, was thrilled that the pupils from North East Fife had been recognised in such a special way.

The East Series is well supported by Fife secondary schools with departments for pupils with additional support needs.  Several Fife athletes won overall series medals this year and even more were well placed in the final round of the 2018/2019 series.”
