Stage 1: Deciding on your options
Course choice information for pupils moving from S4 into S5 is available to download below.
Faculties will be providing further information to pupils directly in class throughout the course choice window and pupils should speak to their teachers about the options available to them in S5.
In an increasingly competitive world beyond school pupils should seek to maximise their potential success in the senior phase of S5-S6 by choosing courses they are committed to, enjoy and are currently performing best in.
Every pupil will be expected to achieve a full course award in each of the choices they make and pupils returning to school can expect an increased expectation from the school community that they will sustain motivation and a positive attitude to their studies throughout the session.
When making choices pupils should pay particular attention to the recommended levels in their S4 parental report, their estimated levels of achievement this session and think about their intended future pathway and career aspirations.
Pupils should talk to their Head of House, teachers and Skills Development Scotland partners in the school should they need additional advice about potential pathways and future careers.
All pupils including those who are considering leaving school should complete the course choice process however they should indicate when asked online if they are planning to return for a full session in S5.
Stage 2. Making course choices online
On Friday, 23rd February all pupils in S4 in session 2017-2018 will be issued with a personal login and pin number to access the Online course choice website. Following discussion with parents all learners will make six course choices from the available options, including a reserve (this will be the sixth choice if all courses are at National 4 or National 5).
The Course Choice website specifically for pupils moving into S5 in session 2018-2019 can be found by clicking on the link below.
Please note that Option Choices for S4 pupils entering S5 in session 2018-2019 must be made by Monday 5th March 2018.
Stage 3. Course counselling
Individual pupil interviews will take place on Monday 12th March 2018 and any changes to chosen courses will be confirmed to parents by email.
Stage 4. Timetabling & confirmation
The school timetabling team will be working over the coming months to complete the whole school timetable for session 2018-2019. It is important to note that whilst the school hopes to provide each pupil with their preferred course choice options we reserve the right to make changes to or withdraw courses if the number opting is too small, or if the necessary resources including staff and/or accommodation is unavailable.
If any changes need to be made to your course choices during the timetabling period these will be communicated directly home from the school timetabling team.
Your individual school timetable will be distributed shortly before you begin your S5 year on Wednesday 6th June, 2018.
If you have any further queries about Course Choice please contact the school on the dedicated email address below.
