The Faculty of International Languages hosted a Japanese Language and Culture Youth Conference last week. Friday morning saw all of our S1 pupils immersed in workshops on Anime and Manga (University of Edinburgh), the Snow Monkey Game (The Royal Zoological Society, Japanese language taster (The Japan Foundation) and origami (Japanese Consulate).
The afternoon session saw The Consulate of Japan and a guest speaker, from the world of business, talk to our S5 pupils about business opportunities for young Scots with Japanese language skills.
A very varied programme for everyone who participated in the conference.
Dr McLay would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to Daisuke Matsunaga (Consul General, Japanese Consulate), Yoko Matsumoto-Sturt (University of Edinburgh), Sandie Robb (The Royal Zoological Society) and Maroto Netsu (The Japan Foundation) for their invaluable contributions.
A special mention too for the work that Dr McLay and her team in International Languages put in to make this event such a success.
