Its aim is to provide an effective approach to the teaching and development of mathematics skills to enhance &#8216;number sense&#8217; in pupils and therefore raise attainment. We believe that understanding how numbers work should be at the heart of maths learning. This is based on robust, current research and has a proven track record in Scotland and worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>Conceptual Numeracy aims to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Improve fluency in maths<\/li>\n<li>Improve opinions of maths<\/li>\n<li>Promote maths and its uses in all careers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Using this approach we aim to make children\u00a0 skilled numerically, be able to transfer the skills they have learned to other areas of the curriculum and encourage flexible thinking.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At Balmullo Primary School, we take a conceptual approach to learning mathematics.
