Caterpillars and Butterfly Display

The children are currently interested in finding caterpillars in the garden. We are developing this interest with the arrival of caterpillars in the nursery. The children are hoping to follow the life cycle and watch as a caterpillar changes in the pupa stage into a chrysalis and then into a butterfly.

Ivy used the display as a stimulus to create this thoughtful painting of a butterfly which is displayed on our learning wall.

“I am making a butterfly. I saw it in the caterpillar story book.”

Please join the children and share the learning wall as they discover more about how things grow in the environment.

“How long does it take a tadpole to turn into a frog?” Maisie wondered.

“Why are caterpillars lots of colours?” Asked Jack.

Beach Kindergarten

The nursery children have enjoyed the opportunity to explore the beach in the fabulous weather.

The children have been developing their literacy skills as they draw and write in the sand.

Numeracy skills as we marked out hopscotch and then jumped and hopped along.

The transient art created by the children showed developing confidence as they used a variety of objects to express their ideas and thoughts.

Primary 1 Transition Visit and Outdoor Buddy Session

Anna Coggins the Headteacher and Lynne Wills one of the Peripatetic Nursery Teachers  met with parents of children transitioning into Primary 1 for an informal chat and tour of the school. They were able to answer any questions the parents had about the school routines and helping the children to settle.

The families then came through to the nursery to share an outdoor fun session planned and delivered by the Primary 6 buddies. The nursery children were able to introduce their families to their Primary 6 buddy and spend quality time sharing the games.
