The children welcomed more adults into the nursery to talk about their job role and added to our current learning wall about the world of work. Developing the Young Workforce encourages young people to consider the skills they will need to develop for future career opportunities. We learned the importance of developing numeracy and literacy skills for all the adult roles.
Earlier in the month we had discussions about working in retail, teaching and driver instruction. We then had visits from Mrs Horth and Mr Crichton discussing their roles as a face painter and working in a restaurant kitchen.
The children were interested in all the equipment required for face painting. Freya remembered some of the skills and equipment required for the role.
“Painting and drawing. You need paints and brushes… a phone number so people can call if they have a party and need a face painter.”
Emily said you need to be good at counting the money.
Mr Crichton shared a manual that helps staff to correctly prepare in the kitchen. We shared our knowledge and understanding about hand washing and germs. We looked at some recipes and thought about the skills used in baking – reading, weighing, counting and decorating.
