Balcurvie Primary School and Nursery serve the village of Windygates and surrounding area. Housing is a mixture of local authority houses and privately owned houses with the village always expanding.

The main school building is Victorian and houses four classrooms, a multi-purpose hall and a kitchen / dining room. Two medway huts cater for a further two classes.

The nursery building, also Victorian, has two classrooms, staffroom, and kitchen and sits adjacent to the school grounds.
