National 4 Short Report

You are challenged with producing a short report of 50-100 words on a choice of one of the topics listed below. Write this neatly on a separate sheet of paper including the title, your name and class.

This description of the application of Chemistry should show that you have grasped the knowledge and understanding behind the topic. You especially need to demonstrate understanding of the chemistry related to the application and it’s effect on the environment/ society.

Choices:

  1. Investigate the uses of electrolytes- where are electrolytes used, are there any issues with disposal?
  2. Uses of vinegar- Investigate the effect of using vinegar on the environment and society, compare the concentration of ethanoic acid in different types of vinegar – malt/ wine/ spirit and cider and what are its wider uses?
  3. Investigate recent developments in battery technology and comment on the Chemistry involved- where do the raw materials for the batteries come from and are there any issues with disposal? What are the factors which effect voltage?
  4. Investigate the chemistry behind a smoke detector- how does it work, what materials are involved?
