Primary 7 – Term 1:
\nIt has been a busy and exciting first term for P7! In Numeracy and Mathematics, we have been developing our strategies for adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing, and applying these skills to solve problems in real-life contexts. We have also been exploring shape, naming and describing the properties of 3D shapes, identifying and using the different parts of a circle, and developing our skills in drawing circles accurately using a compass and given measurements.
\nIn Literacy, we have been developing our use of figurative language, including similes, metaphors, personification, alliteration and hyperbole. We then applied these techniques when creating our own imaginative texts, thinking carefully about structure, genre features and how to create an engaging narrative hook to capture the reader’s attention.
\nOur IDL context this term has been Japan. We explored aspects of Japanese culture and created our own manga-inspired artwork. We also investigated Japan’s transport infrastructure, exploring why it was developed, how it supports the population and how it compares with transport in Scotland. In Art, we explored the use of colour, including how artists can use colour to create different effects and moods, with the work of Wassily Kandinsky providing inspiration for our own artwork.
\nPublic speaking has been another important part of our learning this term. We researched a global issue that interested us before preparing and delivering a talk to the class. We developed our ability to speak clearly and confidently, use eye contact and expression, and engage our audience through questioning. We did a brilliant job of sharing our ideas and supporting one another as we developed our confidence.
\nIt has been a wonderful start to P7, and we are looking forward to building on our learning and experiences as the year continues.<\/p>\n
