YMFS: Monthly Live Streamed Discussion – Article 31

Wednesday 29 May, 2013 from 6:00 PM—7:30 PM

Google+ Link: http://bit.ly/YMFSarticle31

Join us for the first in a series of monthly live streamed broadcasts, led by Youth Music Forum Scotland using Google+, exploring current topics in youth music from all across the country.

This first broadcast will feature guest Tam Baillie, Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People, joining us to discuss the recently released Article 31 (children’s right to culture, leisure and play) and the effect it will have on young people and those who work with young people throughout the UK.

Take part in the discussion live online where you can ask the Commissioner anything on Article 31 and find out all about what’s happening in youth music in Scotland this month.

The live stream discussion will run from 6.00—7.30pm on Wed 29 May.

To join in the debate, you’ll need a Google account, which takes just a few minutes to set up and will enable you to join in the discussion fully. We encourage you to pose questions to the Children’s Commissioner in advance of the event by emailing, hello@ymfs.org.uk or on Twitter using the hashtag, #Article31 or at Facebook.com/YMFScot or you can call the Inner Ear office and ask to speak with Benny or Anny, on 0141 226 8808. If you prefer you can join the Google+ hangout where you can talk directly on camera (using your computer’s in-built microphone and camera) and ask a question as if you were in the room. If you’re new to Google, we recommend you take a few minutes to familiarise yourself with Google+ from 6pm, where we’ll be on hand to help with any technical queries before the broadcast starts from 6:30pm.

If you’re able to join us live on Tuesday 29 May on Google+, please join the event or you can sign up via eventbrite.com.

Creative Partner:Fife Contemporary Art and Craft – Buttercups-primary

100_Buttercups_Education_Pack_(Primary)_May_2011

The 100 drawings that make up the book were made by Fife based artist Laurie Clark. The book was published by artist David Bellingham and from his own press WAX366 with help from Fife Contemporary Art & Craft (FCA&C).

The pack aims to encourage older primary school children (P5 to P7) to develop an appreciation of the aesthetic through observation and creative exploration. By using observational drawing – the exercise Laurie undertakes so well – as a starting point, the art & design projects can be expanded to make links across the curriculum. Laurie describes her drawings as ‘portraits’ of the flowers because each is unique just as we are unique. The following projects explore the concept of things which seem to be the same but on close observation are individual.

New Creative Conversations Edinburgh

The first of the 2012/13 Creative Conversations will be on Monday 29th October at 4 for 4.30 till 5.30 with wine and canapes afterwards (venue to follow with confirmation of attendance). Our first Creative Catalyst this session is Frank Crawford.

Frank is a former Chief Inspector (HMIe), forward thinker, innovator and enthusiastic biker. He has been centrally involved in the development of Scottish education and remains at the forefront of thinking. Frank will take a creative approach, sketching out ideas about meeting the demands of external evaluation, handling inspections, what self evaluation should really be and how we need to think about change and innovation. Frank is in great demand internationally so this is a great chance to catch up with him here in Edinburgh.

As with all previous Creative Conversations, David Cameron will facilitate the discussion and you are invited to continue the conversations afterwards with Frank, David and colleagues over wine and canapes!

This will be a popular Creative Conversation – please get back to me directly if you would like to attend and I’ll send full venue details and confirmation of your place next week.

I look forward to seeing you on the 29th.
