Rotary Challenge

Hi, on Friday the 24th May all the schools from the Grangemouth cluster participated in a Rotary Challenge. This is where we got split in to mixed groups and completed eight different activities. My top three favourites were blind volleyball, tug of war and the radio active bomb. Each team kept tally of their points at the end of each activity, at the end of the event the four teams with the most points went head to head in an obstacle course to see which team would be the final winner. Group 15 was first place, group 13 was second place and 14 was third place. It was really fun.

Friday 12th – Tuesday 16th

Hi, I’m only going to talk about a few things today because it has only been a week since I’ve spoke to you last. On Friday I did a talk on Tajikistan, I learnt many thing that I didn’t know before,          here is a picture of it’s flag.

On Monday both classes went to the local high school to do a science lesson. There were filled beakers each labelled with different percentages e.g. 3%, 2%, 1%, 0.5%. The higher the percentage the quicker the reactions happened, it was really cool.

On Tuesday my class and I went on a 6kilometer bike ride, to the Helix and back again. We had a total of 6 breaks including lunch. One of the stops that we had was to learn a bit about nature and how a bird keeps their chicks alive. Everyone went looking for interesting insects that a bird could possibly use as food for their chicks. here is a picture of us looking at some water insects.

Thanks for reading, bye!

Friday 5th – Tuesday 9th

Hi, I haven’t spoken to you in a while… But that means I have a lot to talk about. On Friday everyone in the class had to prepare a A4  fact file about a randomly picked country. I did mine on Luxembourg, here’s a picture if its flag.  Every week on a Friday we show out fact files to the class and at the end of the day we pick a new one to do the following week. Next week I have to do a fact file on Tajikistan, here is its flag.

On Monday the class and I went to the local high school for an introduction day, we had to start the school day at 8:30am. we learned about the usage of the library, how to take care of our self/body, the clubs and activities that are available to join, the timetable of the usual school day and how to deal with problems that may occur in high school. We also got to use our very own swipe card to order lunch. We got introduced to most of the main/house teachers and got shown some items from the high schools history. It was really fun.

Yesterday (9th May,) everyone in my class walked along to the local library to learn all about Grangemouth’s history. We learned that there used to be a functional airport. We created out own planes… some people made plane like planes and some people made not plane planes, it was honestly quite fun.

My Easter Holiday!

Hi, we have been off school two weeks because it was the Easter Holiday. The first week we were off, my brothers and sisters stayed at my house and we did lots of fun activities including, going to Linlithgow Palace, playing on the trampoline, celebrating my mum’s birthday and doing Easter egg hunts. At Linlithgow Palace we searched the palace in hope to find plaques with important people on them, if we found all the plaques  we got a reward, A small kinder chocolate egg and a sparkly pencil. I also spent most of my extra time planning the birthday party for my mum. We hung banners and buntings from the ceiling, and we bought birthday candles that sing. On the second week I spent most of it in a car because I had to help my grandad deliver things and I had to stay with my Nana, which meant  I stayed in the back of the car whilst she delivered cakes to her friends. It wasn’t a very exciting week.

March 22nd – March 28th

Hi, on Monday 27th my class and I started learning about space travel. We learnt about the International Space Station (ISS,) Tim Peake, how to do things in zero gravity, the Challenger and the Columbus Space Shuttles. My favourite part of it all was learning about zero gravity because I would love to enter zero gravity and learn how to do things without being glued to the ground. I also loved learning about Tim Peake and how had stayed on the ISS for six months, that’s quite a long time. After that we went on to talk about how the Columbus and the Challenger failed, we watched videos showing them blow up mid-air. It’s really cool you should try and find it on YouTube.

French Counting

Since Wednesday 22nd my class have been counting up to 70 in French but there’s a catch every time we do it we time our selves and see if we can beat our previous time.  The first time we did it we got  1 minute 22 seconds, the second time we did it we got 1 minute 24 second, the third time we did it we got 1 minute 17 seconds and the fourth time we did it we got 1 minute 4 seconds, were slowly improving.

Responsibility Group Meeting

On Monday 27th every Responsibility Group had a meeting and since I’m an Ambassador, we planned a part for every one to have a job at some point in the term. We didn’t have much to talk about because we planned ahead months ago.

March 1st – March 10th

Hi, on the 1st of March my class and I preformed a French Restaurant for the Primary 5s. I was waiter for table 4. We served thing like chicken, fish, soup, salad, chocolate cake and many more (these were cardboard dishes.) I had 5 people at my table and it was really hard to remember everyone’s specific order because they all wanted different things. In the kitchen/area, there wasn’t enough chicken se we had to serve some people fish instead. Being a waiter is hard.

March 6th -March 10th

On March the 6th the two primary 7 classes went to Belmont, our residential. Everyday we got 4 meals. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Supper. We got the choice of a cooked Breakfast or cereal every morning but Lunch and Dinner were never the same, meanwhile Supper was either sandwiches or biscuits with hot chocolate. Supper was my favourite. We did 3 activities everyday and 1 night activity every night. The day activities included, the flying fox, the tree climb, Orienteering, the night line and lots more. The archery and the night line were my favourites. We slept in dorms and everyone from my class was in mine, I shared an area of the dorm with my friends Melissa, Greer and Charlotte, we also had a dorm teacher, on the first half of the week we had Mrs McKean and on the second half we had Miss Hallam. Every night our dorm teacher gathered us around one part if the dorm to discuss our favourite part of the day. This was probably my favourite part of the day. On the Thursday we had a disco with all the other schools who were there, it was from 7:30pm to 9:00pm. It was really fun! here is a link to a short clip of some of the things we got up to. Enjoy!!!

February 15th – March 1st

Planets

Hi, I have a lot to tell you because our class hasn’t done blogs in a while, lets get started. On Wednesday the 15th, the class and I started researching Gas Planets, Rocky Planets and Dwarf Planets. It was really fun measuring the distance between planets if the were shrunk down into millimetre sizes. When we shrunk the Planets and Dwarf Planets into millimetre diameters the Sun was only a meter in diameter. Crazy right. We did posters and artwork on this subject for the corridor outside our classroom.

French Restaurant

Over the course of two weeks the class and I have been busy working on a French restaurant, we prepared fake meals, made from paper cardboard and paint. We will be presenting these dishes to the P5s later this afternoon, some of us will be waiters and some of us will be dining with the P5s. make sure to check my next Blog post to see how it went.

Harry Potter – Literacy Week

This is week is literacy week, we started reading the first Harry Potter novel, we created wands and boxes for our Ollivander shop window display. We got to decide The Core, The Wood and The Length of our wands, we made our wands from ruler length straws and tissue paper. Here is a picture of my class and our wands.

Monday 6th – Wednesday 8th

Ghost Tower – Monday 6th

Hi, on Monday we read/finished a book called Ghost Tower by Andrew G Taylor. I would really recommend reading Ghost Tower and maybe some of his other books. It was scary at some parts but it wasn’t too bad. At the end of the book we got into groups and acted out stop motion pictures for one of the chapters that we had read. Here is one of the pictures that we took.20170206_151134

Galaxies – Tuesday 7th

So… On Tuesday, we learned about all the different types of galaxies that have been discovered. We found out interesting facts e.g. Galaxies are made up from dust, stars and gas. We did art and lots of more fun things. The lessons were quite hard to understand but I got my head around them. Here is a picture of our galaxy, the Milky Way.gg

Wednesday 25th – Wednesday 1st

Hi! Last Friday all the P7s had a Burns Supper . There was good food and entertainment throughout the whole thing. This is a picture of me and my table at the Burns Supper.20170127_1331400

Everyone who spoke done extremely well and the piper, who piped in the haggis was excellent. I was very impressed. I was also very impressed by the Highland dancer.

On Monday, we started our new topic. Space. The first thing we leant about was the Big Bang Theory. It was interesting to see how various people think differently about how the world began. Today (1st February) we began looking at how big the Universe actually is, we used the website. Scale of the Universe. Here is a link. http://www.htwins.net/scale2/
