We have 3 giraffes at Kelpie zoo named Gary, Derick and Harry , did you know that a giraffes tongue is 20 inches long! and they also have a life span of 25 years which is amazing for a captive animal. Also a giraffes neck can reach over 6 feet in height! Giraffes have 2 horns on their head for defense
Koalas
We have 4 Koalas named Barry,Sam,Justin and Kyle. Did you know? Koalas are not bears they are marsupials. They also have 6 thumbs facing downwards, They can live up to 18 years which is long for an animal in captivity.
Dik Dik
These are out dik diks at Kelpie zoo. Did you know? Dik diks are quite small probably smaller than your common house dog. They are part of the antelope species however not the smallest in the species. Even though they are small they are very speedy animals. They like to eat leaves , grass etc
Polar bears
Meet our 4 polar bears Adam, Josh, Mark and Lauchlan did you know that Polar bears are actually black , Polar Bears love to eat cod and seals polar bears also can swin quite faster than other bears.
Tomato frog
These are our two tomato frogs Bob and Fred tomato frogs normally eat small insects and larvae. They have a white sticky toxic substance that comes out when threatened. They also breed in fresh water during mating season

flamingo
At Kelpie Zoo we have 20 flamingos. We have named everyone of them, but it would be quite a long list to name them all! Flamingos eat green and red algae. Did you know? Flamingos are born white, but the food they eat makes them pink.
Lions
Lions are meat eaters and enjoy eating deer. We have have 4 lions 1 male called Jason, an 3 females called Elle, Soph and Becky. Lions can run up to 80km while they are hunting.
Red Pandas
Here are our 2 red pandas. They are called Milo and Nelly. They have a diet of leaves, bamboo, fruit, insects and small lizards, though in the zoo we feed them fruit and bamboo. They are very play full but, they have sharp teeth, which you don’t want to cross!!
Gorillas
These are our 2 Gorillas. they are part of a breeding program, because there are less than 200,000 gorillas left n the wild even though that’s a big number, Gorillas are known as one of the most endangered animals. They are known as IUCN (International Union for Conversation of Nature).
