Flamingos

Description

Flamingos are large flightless birds which are very noticeable by its pink feathers and long neck. Their pinkish feathers actually come from eating pigments found in algae and invertebrates.

Diet

Flamingos will eat red and blue algae even in captivity they still get fed algae to keep their magnificent colour.

Young

Baby flamingos are called flaminglets! When they’re born they are actually grey or white. The flamingos recognise their flaminglets by their voice because about 5 days after they join little groups and then they need to come back for food.

Habitat

flamingos would live in lagoons or large but shallow lakes. Flamingos live in south America, Africa and Mexico.

Facts

Flamingos have eggs and sometimes the yolks can be pink!

Flamingos eat upside down!

Flamingos don’t have teeth!
