Learning for Sustainability at Glenburn ELC

At Glenburn ELC, we pride ourselves on learning for sustainability, where children learn to respect the environment, care for their community and appreciate the natural world around them. Learning for Sustainability is woven into our daily practice and is something we value deeply as part of our ethos.

In 2022, we began developing our very own allotment, with staff and children working together to create a space where we could grow crops, explore nature and learn through hands‑on experiences. Thanks to the Food for Thought Grant, we were able to expand this project and offer even more opportunities for children to plant, nurture, harvest and taste their own produce.

Sustainability at Glenburn goes beyond growing food. We take part in regular litter picks in our local community, and our children take great pride in helping keep Hallglen clean and cared for. These activities support responsibility, teamwork and environmental awareness from an early age.

We are also incredibly proud to share that Glenburn ELC has achieved the Green Flag Award, celebrating our ongoing commitment to eco‑friendly practice, outdoor learning and engaging children in caring for their environment.

To share our journey, photos and achievements with you in more detail, we have included a Sway presentation on this page. We would love for our families to take the time to look through it!
