Transition to School

Transitioning from nursery to primary school is an exciting milestone, and at Glenburn ELC, we work closely with families to make this journey smooth, positive and well‑supported.

How We Support School Transitions

At Glenburn, transition activities happen gradually throughout the year, but after the Easter Break, when we enter our final term, our formal transition programme begins. During this period, children have opportunities to:

  • Visit the school environment
  • Spend time in Primary 1 classrooms
  • Meet their teacher
  • Experience the lunch hall
  • Become familiar with school routines
  • Build confidence and ease around the new setting

Before this formal process begins, we also arrange early visits to Hallglen Primary, helping children build familiarity and confidence gradually.

For Children Attending Other Primary Schools

We understand that not all of our children will be attending Hallglen Primary School, and we are fully committed to supporting every child’s transition, wherever they are moving on to.

We maintain communication with all of our feeder schools, and they send their transition information directly to both us and to parents/carers, ensuring everyone receives the same details and stays fully informed. Children attending other primary schools will go to their transition events with their parents/carers, while we continue supporting them in nursery by preparing them emotionally, helping them feel confident, and celebrating this big step together.

Keeping Families Informed

As soon as we receive transition information from schools, we share it promptly with our pre‑school families so that everyone knows what to expect. We understand that this can be a big change, and we are here to support you every step of the way.
