Trustees of Friends of Tremanna

Board Members

Jenny Kane – Convener

Jenny manages the leaving care team in Falkirk. Her background and qualifications are in Community Education and she ‘fell’ into social work after working in a hostel for homeless young people, where she discovered that many of them had care backgrounds. This led Jenny into residential child care.

She passionately believes that residential child care should be the first choice for some young people.

Jenny established the Leaving Care Team in 2004 and counts among her achievements all sixes in Care Inspectorate reports as well as overseeing the refurbishment of a former police station into a beautiful children’s home.

 Alex Beaton – Treasurer

Alex is one of the founding Trustee’s of Friends of Tremanna. He is a Chartered Accountant with a BA degree from the University of Strathclyde. Alex spent many years in management consulting with Ernst & Young, working across the UK and internationally on project and line management roles.

Alex has been a trustee with two other charities. He is semi retired and works part time as a Finance Manager with a homelessness charity based in Glasgow.

 Pauline Connelly – Secretary

Pauline is the registered manager of Tremanna Children’s home and has worked within Children’s Services for over 15 years.

Pauline has worked with young people for over a decade and is passionate about ensuring that the life’s of young people in care and young people who have moved on from care are as rich and fulfilling as they can be.

Pauline has been instrumental in developing a model of care that focuses around relationships and most importantly ensuring that all young people who have lived in Tremanna are welcomed back creating a family ethos within the Children’s home.

Hazel Beattie – Board Member

Hazel Beattie is the Arts Development Officer Performing Arts with Falkirk Community Trust with over 18 years’ experience in arts development and venue programming.  Hazel gained a BA (Hons) in Dramatic studies with Acting from the RSAMD (now Royal Scottish Conservatoire) and has coordinated numerous projects working with all sections of the community in dance, drama and the performing arts.  She still performs on a regular basis working with Captivate Theatre, Gilded Balloon and Voiceover work.

 Mark Brown – Board Member

Mark is Founding director of The Best of You Programme. With a background in Throughcare and Aftercare, and youth leadership, Mark founded The Best of You Programme in 2014.  Mark and his team of guest speakers and facilitators deliver high impact and inspirational programmes for young people and adults throughout Scotland. The programmes are aimed at those who have weathered tough and challenging times. The award winning programmes exists to inspire and guide this generation of young people to recognise that they can shape their own future, take charge of their direction and explore and unleash their true potential.

Sharon Derrick – Board Member

Sharon has worked with the Leaving Care Team for 12 years. Her background is youth work and now through care and aftercare. Sharon has supported many young people who have lived in Tremanna. Sharon is passionate about young people benefitting from consistent and continuing relationships.
