During Covid

The Educational Psychology Service continues to work and in accordance with Scottish Government Guidance. This guidance has been subject to change.

April 2023 position

The Educational Psychology Service will provide a full service. This will be often be through in person meetings in schools or other buildings as well as  through remote working technology for consultation, such as telephone or video conferencing. This is now unrelated to Covid-19 and part of our service delivery.

Educational Psychology  is a statutory service. Parents and pupils have a right to request an educational psychology assessment. The specific methods for assessment are a matter for the Educational Psychologist to consider, who will discuss these with the parent or pupil. This will include any specific Covid-19 transmission mitigations.

For additional details on how we work see our How We Work page or for practitioners our Consultation and Service Delivery Page.

Factors that are taken into account include the community transmission and infection rates, risks for specific methods and the possible mitigation factors that can be used. In order that this is as safe as possible, we will:

  • consult the school or establishment about the visitor protocols and ensure our compliance
  • take appropriate personal mitigations which include vaccination, wearing face coverings and where possible a high grade protective mask

The school or establishment has responsibility for coordinating with a number of visiting specialists and reducing overall risk.

There is an increasing availability of online assessment methods which would be discussed with parents and children in the circumstances where this may be appropriate.
