{"id":1274,"date":"2017-11-13T17:04:46","date_gmt":"2017-11-13T17:04:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fa\/eastercarmuirs\/?p=1274"},"modified":"2017-11-13T17:04:46","modified_gmt":"2017-11-13T17:04:46","slug":"teach-your-children-well","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fa\/eastercarmuirs\/2017\/11\/13\/teach-your-children-well\/","title":{"rendered":"Teach Your Children Well"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>https:\/\/youtu.be\/2vnYKRacKQc<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m sure I have mentioned before that I do enjoy playing the guitar. \u00a0I have an acoustic guitar and recently treated myself to a new electric guitar as well. \u00a0I have to say that I am not any good and might be best described as a campfire strummer but I do enjoy it. \u00a0My older boy plays drums so now I can accompany him on my electric guitar and imagine that I am selling out the Clyde Auditorium! \u00a0 Every now and then Crosby Stills and Nash pops up on my random playlist and there is something about their harmonies that really appeals to me. \u00a0The fact that this song has such a simple chord progression that even I can play it is an added bonus.<\/p>\n<p>Last week I attended a conference called \u201cLeading with Care\u201d in Glasgow and much of what I heard was genuinely inspirational and I wanted to share a little of what was said.<\/p>\n<p>The highlight of the two days for me was listening to Richard McCann.\u00a0 Understanding the\u00a0 impact of ACEs (or adverse childhood experiences) is becoming a much bigger part of our work and recognising the long term implications of them in terms of the health and wellbeing of adults is growing in prominence.\u00a0\u00a0 This video gives an outline.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"How childhood trauma affects health across a lifetime | Nadine Burke Harris | TED\" width=\"474\" height=\"267\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/95ovIJ3dsNk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>When you hear the story of Richard McCann then in light of this knowledge you can understand the initial trajectory of his life.\u00a0 If you have the heart for it you can follow the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.richardmccann.co.uk\/my-english-teacher-changed-my-life\/\">link to read a part of his story<\/a>, but be warned it is not an easy read.\u00a0 What is really worth us remembering though is his conclusion.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong> &#8220;To every teacher on the planet I say this: Never underestimate the potential that lies within each and every young person you come into contact with, and, possibly more importantly, never underestimate the difference that your words of encouragement may have in their lives.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>I see all of the staff in Easter Carmuirs show this encouragement every day;
