There is built in speech-to-text functionality in the iPad keyboard as well as alternative speech-to-text options in Microsoft apps.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"builder-section-text_39\" class=\"builder-section-prev-text builder-section builder-section-text builder-section-next-text builder-text-columns-2 layout-6\" style=\"background-size: cover; background-repeat: no-repeat;background-position: center center;\">\n<div class=\"builder-section-content\">\n<div class=\"builder-text-row\">\n<div class=\"builder-text-column builder-text-column-1\" id=\"builder-section-text_39-column-1\">\n<div class=\"builder-text-content\">\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">iPad Speech-to-Text<\/h3>\n<p>iPad speech-to-text is available any time the keyboard pops up. It can be used across a variety of apps. Remember if you are using a PC you will need a microphone.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To use voice typing, you&#8217;ll need to be connected to the internet, have a working microphone, and have your cursor in a text box<\/li>\n<li>Once you turn on voice typing, it will start listening automatically &#8211; wait for the &#8220;Listening&#8230;&#8221; alert before you start speaking<\/li>\n<li>To turn on voice typing press the Windows logo key + H<\/li>\n<li>To turn off voice typing say a voice typing command like &#8220;Stop listening&#8221; (for a full list of commands see <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/windows-speech-recognition-commands-9d25ef36-994d-f367-a81a-a326160128c7\">this page<\/a> from Microsoft)<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"builder-text-column builder-text-column-4\" id=\"builder-section-text_39-column-2\">\n<div class=\"builder-text-content\">\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Chromebook Speech-to-Text<\/h3>\n<p>Chromebooks have speech-to-text too! This only works if the spoken language matches the device language. This is useful for reading but also for the proofreading stage of writing. Using these tools to have their writing read back to learners allows them to check for errors and make sure their writing makes sense.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">iPad Speak Selection<\/h3>\n<p>iPad&#8217;s Speak Selection function allows for users to have any text which can be highlighted read back to them. You have to turn this on if you want to be able to use it. Please note that these features are designed to work with core apps, some third party apps may not allow these system features to be used.<\/p>\n<p>To turn speak selection on go to:\u00a0Settings &gt; Accessibility &gt; Spoken Content and toggle Speak Selection on. When you let go you will see an options ribbon appear, tap &#8216;Speak&#8217; and your iPad will read the highlighted text to you. The best and most comprehensive version of Immersive Reader on iPad is in OneNote. When learners have written pieces in OneNote they can use Immersive Reader to review their work.<\/p>\n<p>To enable Immersive Reader tap on the &#8216;View&#8217; tab along the top and then select &#8216;Immersive Reader&#8217;. We like Book Creator and Pages as both of these apps allow you to make EPUB files, which are books which can contain multimedia including text, audio, video, image. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unlike a document (which can be edited by the reader) an EPUB \u00a0has a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sense of finality or occasion about it. This gives learners the chance to showcase their writing in different ways and can be a good option for reluctant writers or those who are still developing their writing
