This information is about Glow accounts at the end of a school year. It is particularly important for staff members who are moving to a new local authority.\u00a0<\/p>\n

About Glow accounts and SEEMiS work records<\/h2>\n

For all teachers and ELC practitioners your Glow account is linked to your SEEMiS work record. This is how Glow knows which establishment you work at and confirms that you are eligible for access to the Glow environment. If your work record is incorrect or doesn’t exist, you may experience issues with Glow access. When you move from one Falkirk establishment to another there is rarely an interruption to your Glow access, however if you do not have an active SEEMiS work record or are moving local authority you may have to take steps to protect content saved or associated with your Glow account.<\/p>\n

I’m moving to a new establishment, will my account be affected?<\/h2>\n

If you are moving from one Falkirk establishment to another without a break in your service<\/strong> you don’t have to take any action.<\/p>\n

If you are moving\u00a0from one Falkirk establishment to another with a break in your service<\/strong> you need to be aware that you may lose access to your Glow account. This often includes those moving to permanent supply following a probation year, those who are moving from probationary year to a school contract that begins in September or later, those moving from one temporary contract to another with a break in between. If this describes you, you should consider taking the appropriate actions below as a precaution and request for a ‘grace period’ to be applied to your account.<\/p>\n

If you are moving\u00a0from a Falkirk establishment to an establishment within another local authority<\/strong> you will lose access to your Falkirk Glow account. When you leave Falkirk and your SEEMiS work record is deleted, your Glow account and all of its content will also be deleted. This is an automated process. You will receive a new Glow account from your new local authority. If this describes you, you should take the appropriate actions listed below and request for a ‘grace period’ to be applied to your account.<\/p>\n

What is a grace period?<\/h2>\n

A grace period of 60 days can be applied to your Falkirk Glow account. The 90 days begins from the time your SEEMiS work record is closed. This grace period gives you access to your Falkirk Glow account for an extended period of time to allow you to move, copy or transfer the appropriate content, files and materials from your old Glow account to your new one or to an alternative storage space. The grace period can only be applied to your account once.<\/p>\n

How do I apply the grace period?<\/h2>\n

Contact your school office or kerry.abercrombie@education.falkirk.sch.uk to have the grace period applied to your account. You must<\/strong> do this before<\/strong> your SEEMiS work record is deleted.<\/p>\n

What actions should I take?<\/h2>\n

Glow Connect is the national support site for all things Glow for all users. This Glow Connect\u00a0support page <\/a>details what is affected when you move school or move local authority and gives guidance about to what to do.<\/p>\n

We recommend these four actions for all users who will be affected by a move:<\/p>\n

1. Grace Period<\/small><\/big><\/h3>\n

A 60 day grace period can be applied to your account which will give you some additional time to get organised. Contact your school office or Kerry Abercrombie (kerry.abercrombie@education.falkirk.sch.uk) to have this applied to your account.<\/p>\n

2. Transfer Ownership<\/h3>\n

When your account is deleted all of the content is also deleted – this includes Glow Blogs, Sways, Forms, SharePoint Sites and Outlook Groups which may be part of a whole school initiative or project. You can ensure that your school still has access to things they may need by transferring ownership to a colleague. Find out more about how to do that for different services here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

3. Share Things<\/h3>\n

You may wish to share copies of resources or materials which were made collaboratively or as part of distributed development work to benefit an entire stage, subject or faculty. These can be shared individually or in a folder but should be shared by sending a full copy rather than giving shared access.<\/p>\n

4. Save Things<\/h3>\n

You will likely have teaching resources\u00a0and materials you wish to take with you to your new post. You might want to make copies of these to another cloud based or hardware based storage solution while you wait for access to your new Glow account. Please bear in mind that this change has been made to comply with GDPR legislation so please ensure you only take data you are entitled to.<\/p>\n
